JAL is great. (At least in Business and First). Have not flown ANA.

I have flown both a number times, and I prefer ANA, but honestly both are excellent. ANA business class was a little superior. Food and service was great on both.

And as they are Japanese they have great alcohol menu and they never stop filled the glass.

I like ANA, but they’re very similar in my experience. I’m always in economy class, for what it’s worth.

I’ve actually technically never been to Japan as I haven’t cleared immigration but I’ve flown both, JAL in first and business and ANA in business.
ANA business is close to the best there is if you are lucky to get one of the flights with a business suite, I found the business seat on the Sydney leg to be ok without being great. Service and food is great on both. JAL first was another step up especially in the alcohol selections

How is that you have flown to all sorts of countries yet never been to Japan???

I went there in Nov and loved it more than I thought I would. Food was great and lots of temples and historical sites to see. Mt Fuji is really beautiful to see from afar.

The family is already keen to go again, I would like to spend more time in Osaka and Kyoto.

Bit like the US I guess. Done several transits through but never have entered. Yeah it’s strange considering there are European countries we have visited 20-30 times and there are a stack of obscure countries we have visited multiple times

The only places I’m motivated to go from now are in South America or Europe.

Outside Oz or NZ of course.

All through Emirates website, but are those transfer times tight? Not for me but for my 67 year old mum. She’s a bit worried about the connection time.

I’d prefer 90 minutes at DXB but MCT is 60 minutes and it’s doable but I want want to be under pressure or needing to do it quickly. Emirates staff are great though and will put her on a golf buggy to get her between gates.
Emirates punctuality is pretty good too and I reckon from Australia to Dubai I’ve always arrived at least 5-10 minutes early

At least if it’s all one ticket if the flight is delayed it’s their problem to fix right?

Yes, it’s protected.
They will put her up in a hotel for the night if they can’t make alternate arrangements

Few weeks to go so hopefully it settles down a bit but flights from Heathrow to Dubai are cancelled. Got to get to the UK first so we’ll cross the other bridge when or if we get there.
Got my tickets promised last night for the Hammers v Chelsea and spuds so if anyone has a hotline to Donald ask him to take a breather please.

So I’m travelling to Europe and got a hacker fare, so parts are Turkish airlines and part Qantas. But for some reason the full trip appears in the Qantas app. What does that mean?

I’m going to assume that Google’s AI answer when you search on ā€œcodeshareā€ is correct?

That’s neato. So you can pay for a Turkish airlines flights with star alliance points but be flying on a Qantas plane(or vice a versa?)

Thanks. Didn’t even know to look up ā€˜codeshare’.

When I looked up star alliance, it didn’t list Turkish Airways.

Yes, codeshare is the main advantage of airline alliances. It expands a flight network for people by allowing different airlines to share the same ticket/flight number. FF miles can also be shared.

So, Turkish Airlines uses Air New Zealand’s lounge in Melbourne, but it sounds like I should check if I can use the Qantas lounge?

Of course, no idea if my flight will be anywhere near the Qantas lounge if it is a Turkish Airlines plane.

I went business on Turkish last year. SYD-KL-IST-Porto, MADrid-IST-DJAK

Much cheaper and good tucker at Istanbul lounge

It was about 30% cheaper than Emirates

It will depend on who is the operating carrier on the first leg and what your flight codes are. Codeshares whilst being good in some ways can also throw up some curveballs especially in cross alliance and non partner flights such as this
