Error by check in agent. They should be denying you a boarding pass and not letting you get to the point of boarding. Airlines are liable for costs so have really cracked down on it

Plenty of Villas and plenty of resorts have well priced Villas or Pool Suites. General rule of thumb is prices are cheaper at Kuta and work their way up to Seminyak. Canggu is the new buzz place but is too far away for me personally.
I still think the best area is the Legian/Seminyak area personally and that’s after many dozens of trips. We still enjoy going but have cut it back to once or twice a year now

It was Darwin.

I sent the family and I joined them a day later.

@Aceman or anyone who’s been there. Have been offered a 3 night stopover in Dubai returning front the UK in September. Worth taking or not long enough?

We are very frequent visitors to the ME and have been to Dubai dozens of times. Definitely worth a stay and of you get offered one for free then that’s a bonus. It’s a modern, clean and safe city with plenty to do and easily can spend 3 days there. Temps can still be in the high 30’s during September but it’s the turn towards the cool season so it can vary from mid to high 30’s but it’s the perfect time for resorts and for night activities

Cheers Ace. It’s not a free offer. The agent has managed to change some dates and flights to enable us to have a stopover. His first attempt couldn’t fit one in unless we paid a lot more. The new one saves about 2 grand and gives us the 3 night opportunity. I suppose it is a freebie really.
Mid August to mid September, you’ll see the relevance of the dates. Come on you Irons!!!

Try to get a hotel near PT. Taxis and Uber are pretty cheap but temps still could be high and Dubai Metro has air conditioning in most walkways and is very easy to use. Dubai can be pretty costly for meals and beverages around the tourist areas and malls but just go a street or two back and there is restaurants on every corner that are cheap and delicious.

Villas are great for extra space & privacy but personally I think they can be a bit boring after a few days. Are you wanting just a full chillout or somewhere you can still meet people around the main pool or bars? Do you want to be close to lots of restaurants & some nightlife or more quiet seclusion?

As a general rule more of the villas are set back from the beach & main areas because the hotels, bars & restaurants have most of the prime real estate but you can still find some really nice villas just off the main streets particularly in Legian. Check out Villa Olivia & Alam Jepun in legian, both will fit in your budget. Also check out some of the hotels & consider breaking up the holiday at more than 1 place. maybe a few nights up in Ubud for a different escape.

A full chillout sounds great. We are heading over for a friends 40th, they have a few days booked for the group where we will catch up, other than that we want to eat, drink and relax, we might do half in a villa and half at a hotel/resort.

Good plan. Don’t dismiss the idea of going to seperate parts of the island either as you will get very different experiences. Ubud or in the middle of the island can make you feel a million miles away once you get through traffic but if you want closer Sanur and Benoa have good affordable accommodation. We usually always finish the trip in one of the resorts at Nusa Dua. After doing everything we want in Seminyak, Legian at the Villa or hotel we try to have 3-4 days at one of the resorts. Nusa Dua is a gated compound that is full of resorts and we don’t leave the resort until it’s time to head home or onwards

Been in Belize a week. Big day today. Overcame some fears to spend nearly 3 hours in Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) cave, swimming, wading, squeezing, climbing our way to the cathedral-like ceremonial chamber where the ancient Mayans made sacrifices to Chaac the rain god. As their civilisation began failing due climate change & over-population (!), the sacrifices became more & more desperate with 20 human skeletons so far discovered (11 were children).
It was an amazing experience. Unfortunately, some idiot dropped their phone & put a hole in a baby’s skull a few years ago so cameras are no longer allowed. These are not my pics but are representative of our experience…

I never got sent the images!

Was cool, THE vertical climb/drop must end in tears on a not-too-rare basis though.

Yeah, our guide started telling us about all the gory injuries he has had to deal with (not until the walk out of course!). We ended up going with Limpkin Tours cos they start earliest - we had the ceremonial chamber pretty much to ourselves, then passed lotsa groups on the way out. Worked out well. Our guide was mature, experienced & calm which helped too.

You are 1000 x braver than me, no way I would go into those underwater tunnels.

Like no way!

My wife has been having nightmares for months, but we all found it fine. I find it is often much worse to think about things than to do them. Tho we did have to exit with a guy from another group who was freaking out with claustrophobia …

Apart from that one steep bit, it was very tame caving.
