Tribunal/MRO from 2023 - Choose Your Own Adventure continues

He died just the other day. Maybe he has reincarnated into Junior Rioli

1-2 weeks, depending on how the impact is graded.

Careless, medium/high impact, high contact.

Highly unlikely to graded severe given no fracture.

Yes, I see Collingwood thanked him for his services to the club. Thats not in accordance with what they did to him at the time, they actually ran him out of dodge because he was a thug. Oh well people do try to re-write history: Collingwood need to sanitise their image.

The Rioli backhand punch was common back in the day. Number of players like Ted Whitten were so accomplished at it that you would hardly notice. If there was no slow motion video of Rioli, most of us would have no idea what happened.

It was deliberate, behind play and Rids got concussed; six farking weeks is about right.

I’m a bit worried for Ridley.

It didn’t take much to cause a concussion.

He has a history after that thug Hipwood concussed him 2 years ago.

Ralph is an idiot. Banned me years ago on Twitter because I called him a farkhead over the Saga stuff. Certainly not missed.

An elbow to the head, even glancing, is like having a sledge hammer collect you. That part of the body is hard as all crap and can do some serious damage.

if the AFL / tribunal are genuinely serious about protecting the head then an act like that has to carry a major penalty to prove they are serious about protecting the head

From the many replays I’ve seen I don’t think it was elbow. Thought it looked to be his wrist. Off the ball and he left the ground to make contact.
It’s something that you could once get away with but with all the camera angles now, you are gone.
Under the guidelines it’s probably a 2 week suspension and I definitely don’t think it’s a 4 week suspension

It seemed innocuous at the time and as mentioned above it looked like Ridley was also most playing for a free by flopping. Obviously he wasn’t and it was serious but if Van Rooyen was given 2 by the MRO which should be overturned by the Tribunal then Rioli should probably get 3. He effectively took out structurally our most important player and the fact he left the ground makes it difficult to give less than 3 I think. Be interested to see what 360 have to say on it.

The bold and Rioli’s history are why I have reservations about Rioli’s intentions.

It is pretty hard to argue that it wasn’t intentional. He runs away from the direction of the ball to try and block, but raises his arm as he moves past Ridley to strike him, indicating he intended to make contact with him in some capacity. It would be hard to argue the contact as careless when he moves toward Ridley with the intent to make contact with him, especially as he had the alternative option of actually blocking - not running past him, raising and swinging his arm backward

If it’s intentional, the contact is high (head) and the question is what the impact is. Since he concussed him, it’s pretty hard to argue it wasn’t severe - which would be 4 weeks

That being said, MRO chook lotto means he could get 1 week

Has Rioli been given the death penalty yet?

If it was delibrate, and we knew it, he should have needed assistance coming off the ground.

Maybe a suspension could be backdated, like the one for tampering with the sample.

There’s an article on the AFL website saying Rioli is distressed. I think some flog racially abused him online.

Maybe they’re not announcing anything right now due to the current issue being addressed by PAFC?

Edit - never mind. Going to the tribunal.
