Tribunal/MRO from 2023 - Choose Your Own Adventure continues

Compensated for by all cricket and football watchers wanting to punch James Brayshaw in the face.

Going to be interesting… isn’t it?

He’ll get a week.
Sure as eggs.
For leaping in the air and shouldering an opponent in the friggin’ head.

I’m sure Hooker got done for high contact in a spoil. Not that that matters.

The real story here is that Christian didn’t think it was chargeable.
No matter the outcome, not even putting it up…the man has to go.

100% agree on Christian. He’s biased and will always be a Pie. Must go. On the Maynard charge - based on AFL grading system doesn’t it have to be 3 weeks ? I think it’ll be a suspension bc Maynard chose to leap in the air and he owes a duty of care to Brayshaw - that duty of care supersedes Maynard’s right to protect himself - because he chose to leap like superman. The onus is on Maynard and even though it’s a football action Maynard must wear the consequences of his actions

Christian has always been Gil’s stooge, with Gil going, what becomes of Christian.?

The ball being 5 or 6 metres away when he commenced the leap to smother, surely means he couldn’t foreshadow his football action would result in a reportable offence.
Which means it can’t be classified as careless.

You’re ignoring that he’s leaping towards the player.

Regardless, there are obviously different interpretations of what this was.
Which will be argued by…I won’t say greater…but other minds than us.

Again, the guy that said there’s nothing to see here has to go.
Has to.

That’s where the ball is coming from.

Again, if this was a smother off the boot, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

It ceased to be a football act the moment he tucked his elbow.

You do not tuck your elbow for a smother.

The only thing he has going for him is self-preservation.

If the ball was 5-6 meters away when he jumped (and presumably even further away when contact was made) he’s not allowed to bump anyway. An off-the-ball bump that results in concussion. No reason for it not to be weeks.

If Maynard performed a vertical jump there probably wouldn’t have been a collision. Making a jump towards the kicker increased the probability for a collision, therefore it was careless.
He’s entitled to protect himself, however. IMO the head high collision was accidental but being head high during a careless act it’s a couple of weeks holiday.

If it was match sim and Daicos was the one kicking, you think his only option would’ve been to tuck in and ram his shoulder through his head?

lol

It’s a difficult case but the risk-reward from his action means there are consequences. Should be only 1 week and then availaible for GF if they make it.

True, but has this been the focus of any media?

Don’t tune into much AFL media so can’t say. The obvious answer is no for all the usual reasons.

I wonder if Christian took his Collingwood hat off for just one minute every so often if he would think it is worthy of a suspension

It has not.
But the fact that he let this pass, had to be overruled, has to be gone.

If you can tackle a player and get weeks if his head hits the ground, you can get weeks if you attempt to smother and hip and shoulder a player in the head.

If Maynard had his arms extended out to grab Brayshaw and soften the blow, this wouldn’t even be a discussion.

It’s the Pies. Hang him!

Completely agree. The optics are terrible.

But where’s the groundswell for action? If the media don’t push it we all know the AFL will ignore it.
