Never have I been bored watching tv until I saw Resurrection… missus is hooked on it
I see Michel Huismann got a gig in GOT after Treme finished. He suffered from yellow fever in that.
I believe the song the Lannister soldiers were singing was related to the storming of King's Landing and what happened to Elia Martell, hence why Oberyn got so pissed.
Yep, and Dorne are a big player who have a long history and a lot of land, money, soldiers etc.
Yep.Prince Oberyn was perfectly cast - Bossed it.
I'm not sure why he's there though. Seems to be a pretty vengeful character to just be sitting around under the noses of those he wants to do away with. Although I think Tyrion really doesn't give a ■■■■■.
He's there on behalf of his elder brother Prince Doran - Crown Prince of Dorne. After Tyrion invited him to a seat on the small council when he sealed a marriage pact between Princess Mercella and Prince Trystane (Doran's youngest son)
That wasn't a spoiler for those who have forgotten :).
Oberyn explaned a huge part of the story very quickly when he was speaking 'openly' with Tyrion.
I've 'spoilered' the following but it only mentions what's already been revealed during the 1st 3 seasons, actually most events Ive mentioned happened before the show started, it's history...
The Targaryens (Dany's parents) were the previous rulers of Westeros, before Robert Baratheon took over.
King Robert, along with Ned Stark and the Lannisters etc (Robert's Rebellion) over threw "The Mad King" Aerys Targaryen when they stormed the city of King's Landing.
Basically Oberyn's sister was married to Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and she was killed along with their 2 Targaryen kids by Tywin Lannister's chief henchman "The Mountain" - Sir Gregor Clegane (The Hound's brother, who burnt The Hound's face over a toy when they were kids, according to Littlefinger's story to Sansa).
So the nation of Dorne has issues with the Lannister's, and Princess Myrcella (Baratheon), Joffrey's sister, was sent to Dorne by Tyrion as part of a marriage pact to patch things up, even though she's only 10yo or something.
Anyway, despite all of this Dorne still want "The Mountain's" head, and The Mountain is still in the service of Tywin Lannister.
Possible book spoiler. Do not read if you cannot read a book.
Ummm...I'll assume you've not read book 5 then?? Some, or all, of that information may not be exactly correct...

Nah Ive read it, I was giving the background for people who weren't sure what to think about Oberyn, I wasn't posting spoilers
OK cool. As you were :)
So then. How about that Stephen Colbert news.

Ear! Ear!
Like it.So then. How about that Stephen Colbert news.
I am slightly trepidatious. Not that he can't do the job his way but that his way might not really be what the people in charge are completely comfortable with and thus it doesn't work because he's caught between the two. Maybe too early to really be worrying about that kind of thing....
So then. How about that Stephen Colbert news.
“Simply being a guest on David Letterman‘s show has been a highlight of my career. I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave‘s lead … I‘m thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me,†Colbert said
Then he quipped, “Now, if you‘ll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth.â€
lol.
You realise he is in character on The Colbert Report...I am slightly trepidatious. ■■■■! Really?!? ■■■!!!!
Also, yes I do. I am wondering if his rather more intelligent and potentially more honest* way of doing things will work when the latest ScarJo film needs promoting and the network books the actress to be gushed over with maximum sycophancy.
*it's fair to say that I see the major network tonight shows as disingenuous advertising vehicles regardless of the host. Will Colbert want to do things precisely that way?

You are a cynical, cynical man.
You need to absorb my attitude towards my fellow man...particularly those in the mainstream media.
Oh...hang on!
Thank you. It's hard to soar like an eagle when one is surrounded by turkeys.
Ah ok, now I understand where you were coming from.****! Really?!? ■■■!!!!

Really appreciated this. Actually passed on this info to others at work who were a little confused. This guy's accent was a bit like trying to watch anything with Banderas/Cruze in it - need an interpreter.

Yes his accent is a bit hard to follow. Also it doesn't help that his sister was Elia (Martel), and his "paramour" (that's how he introduces her to Tyrion) is Elaria (Sand). BTW Sand is the generic ■■■■■■■ name they use in Dorne, like how they use Snow in the North.
I realised when I watch the episode again that
the Lannisters in the brothel were singing The Raynes of Castamere, which is a song about how the Raynes family betrayed the Lannisters and know they are all dead. Basically the song reminds everyone how bad ■■■ the Lannisters are.
On holidays of sorts in Hoi An, Vietnam. They have GOT on TV next, whereas l usually have to wait until the whole season is released before l get to see it. Bonus.
People seriously had a hard time following Oberyn's accent? How do you cope with taxi drivers, checkout chicks and, like, half the population??

I struggle.
