I’m not sure how to set a criteria for underrated. Quite a few in here aren’t though. Usual Suspects for example is a classsic and highly respected among film lovers. Starship Troopers is another I would consider highly regarded among film lovers. Underrated is something that doesn’t get a lot of consideration for some particular reason but requires further assessment. The Conversation by Coppola for example didn’t get a lot respect initially because it was released between the first two Godfather films. Now it’s considered a classic and deserves far more respect.
Underrated and overrated are judgements of reviews.
Not of the movies.
Carry on.
Mike Leigh’s ‘Naked’. Pretty bleak stuff at times, a ranting misanthropic, nihilist roaming Soho in a British realist nightmare but the directing, performances are powerhouse, cinematography and music all fit together. How I view this today is different to when I discovered it in my early 20’s. Bit of a warning about some graphic scenes.
I’d add ‘Life Is Sweet’ to that, it’s a different film altogether than The Castle but with a very similar sentiment about ordinary working class family life. Very warm.
David Thewlis is brilliant in both, him and Leigh worked very well together. Both films underrated as are Thewlis performances.
Yours sincerely
-Not Marg and David
The burbs with Tom hanks is very funny.
Army intelligence with Danny de Vito
In terms of sci fi- gattaca is very underrated
Multiplicity. Laughed my ring out when I saw it way back.
Severely U R’d for mine.
Boondocks Saints. Straight to video… absolute cracker of a movie.
Green Street Hooligans as well
Another of Spacey’s leaser known and underrated movies was Swimming With Sharks…very early in his career and possibly a bit of a clue to the type of person he really was in his personal life that came out many years later.
Best film score of all time, especially the anniversary edition which includes all the unreleased music.

Kick ■■■ is a brilliant dark twist on the normal superhero style movie. The background score adds to the feel of the movie brilliantly.
The scene where she kills everyone, while Nick Cage is burning to death, is one of the best scenes in the history of superhero movies. The music was epic.
Agree. One of my favourite scenes of all time. The action, the tension and the music combined perfectly.
I enjoyed Awaydays. Had a brilliant soundtrack and the Casual look.
Adagio in D Minor from Sunshine, just recently used in WW84.
I feel Children of Men isn’t that well known, despite it being one of the best shot movies of all time. However, not sure that would make it ‘underrated’
I remember Wes Anderson’s Darjeeling Limited not getting great reviews when it came out, but it’s such a fun movie
■■■■■■ easily in my top3 of all time, cracking film.
“The Game” was a great movie, very original.
Not sure if underrated but another suspense packed thriller from 97 was “Breakdown” with Kurt Russell, edge of your seat stuff.
I was thinking of Go and Election as well, both films I’m due to watch again.
