Underrated Movies

Thankyou for Smoking.

Down by Law.

Brilliant movie

Speaking of Smoking: Smoke. Harvey Kietel, William Hurt and Stockard Channing. A good movie with a great story.

I thought it was a great movie. Once you realise what’s happening to the ladies, it leaves an impression.

Spoiler

At the end, when she’s waiting for the lobotomy. It’s hard to watch.

Anything with John Candy is highly rated by me. Still haven’t recovered from his passing…way too soon.

Just finished watching a little Northern Irish film from 2013 called Starred Up.

It’s a prison drama starting Jack O’Connell and an excellent Ben Mendelsohn.

Quite brilliant on a small budget and considering I hadn’t really heard much about it, very underrated.

Sorry Rushmore had a good buildup during the movie then it turned into garbage!

They had a Killer Klowns house for Halloween Horror Nights a few years back - it was amazing!

That was the nickname given to him. His name was Leo, then the organiser called him the Lion then that blonde chick called him Lionheart.

Zucker, Abrahams & Zucker then add in John Landis directing. Not as good as some of their latter stuff like Flying High & Top Secret but you could see where it was heading.

I wanted to contribute to this thread, but have a frustration…it’s not like I’ve got a written list of every film I’ve ever seen…and there are so many films that I only ever watched the once (so I can’t recall their titles for this exercise, and my impressions are hazy).

Oh well, here is just a clutch of obscure (underrated?) films that I have good mental vibes about, even if I can’t remember their storyline:

  • Shallow grave
  • Swing girls
  • You can count on me
  • Intacto
  • Me you and everyone we know
  • Crank
  • End of watch
  • Bone tomahawk
  • The guilty
  • Lean on Pete

If I wanted to make some safe nominations, with better known films, I’d put forward titles like the following:

  • Midnight Run
  • Departures
  • Nightcrawler
  • Hanabi
