Updated best 22?

After a bit of an unexpected start to the season. I ask a few questions to the blitzers, after a couple of weeks in the VFL for Rids, Reid and potentially Setterfield. What do we think it looks like? Who misses out? Lav? Cox? Hobbs?!

Just curious to hear what we think the dynamic will look after our recent success.

B. McGrath Reid Ridley
Hb. Redman McKay Martin

C. Heppell Durham Cox

Hf. Gresham Jones Stringer
F. Guelfi Wright Langford

R. Goldstein Merrett Parish

I. Perkins Caldwell Kelly Davey
Sub. Hobbs

With Ridley coming back into the defense, it will be interesting to see if Hepp can keep Duursma’s wing spot while injured. Davey could be A or J depending on next couple of weeks, otherwise Hind also a chance for keeping speed in the fwd line.

With Rids, Reid, and Setterfield potentially coming back, I think we’ll see some shifts. Rids might push Lav out of the defense. Reid could challenge Cox for a spot, and Setterfield might mean Hobbs has to fight hard to stay in.

Our recent success makes it a tough call, but it’s a good problem to have. Who do you think will make way?

SMJ truly is a shape-shifting reptile huh. You’re never quite sure what the next incarnation is going to be.

I think Hobbs, Laverde, Hind will make way for Settlefield, Reid and Duursma.

Important for Bryan, Tsatas, Hobbs to build some chemistry in the 2s.

I think our updated best 22 after the bye will look like this:

B - Ridley McKay Redman
HB - Martin Reid McGrath
C - Duursma Merrett Cox
HF - Perkins Jones Gresham
F - Langford - 2MP - Stringer

Followers - Goldy, Durham, Parish

Interchange: Heppell, Kelly, Guelfi, Caldwell

Sub - Setterfield

*Draper to slot in somewhere when he is right

Who is the second Guelfi meant to be?

His father, who is arguably Perth’s best electrician.

Updated! Put Guelfi in front of Langers

Ridley?

Whoops he is added I had two Kelly’s

Now that you’ve sorted it out, yeah I reckon if we were playing a final that would be close to the team I’d want. And I wouldn’t have thought that at the start of the year about a couple of guys. I wouldn’t have thought I’d be saying that both Kelly and Heppell both deserve their spots.

With the exception of the sub (Setterfield ain’t a sub IMO - I’d want that to be either Hind or Hobbs) and I don’t quite have enough trust/faith in Reid yet but hoping that changes in the next few months as he gets his chance. But I like the structure. Lav would be the deserved placeholder for Reid as things stand.

The two rucks thing is going to be interesting if we had good availability and it came down to the crunch of a final. I don’t love playing two rucks, 2MP, Jones, Langford and Stringer either so I’d pick whoever was in the best form between Goldy and Draper. For this campaign to date, Goldy has the runs on the board.

We have some decisions to make with Zach Reid becoming available and Ridley already coming into the team. That’s a pretty strong backline on paper but also too tall.
If Caddy plays well up forward then do we also play Caddy, Wright, Jones along side Langford and Stringer.

Defensive talls:
McKay, Ridley, Lav, Reid, Cox (wing/defence)

I wouldnt be dropping Lav and Kelly just yet as they have played their rolls well and don’t deserve to be dropped.

Tall forwards:
Wright, Caddy, Jones… Stringer, Langford

I would also like to give Bryan a go but as long as it’s along side Goldy because I don’t have the trust is Bryan doing it by himself.
