US politics - cooked

I’ve been hunting for quality coverage on this, but it’s all been Margorie Taylor Green and that ilk. Not saying what is happening is good, but this is being played for politics. I can’t see any evidence of reporters being arrested like claimed.

Wonder if someone onboard ignored an overheating axle warning.

May as well start calling him a Falbagutin, if words aren’t going to have any meaning.

If only some of those Republicans the right considers communists and Democrats actually voted with the Democrats. :sob:

Possibly up to 15 million Americans about to lose their health insurance due to the sunsetting of a provision introduced during COVID. The states stopped checking eligibility. Now they’re going to. In fairness, this did cost $150billion over three years.

But in April, that will end — states will be re-checking every Medicaid enrollee’s eligibility, an enormous administrative undertaking that will put health insurance coverage for millions of Americans at risk.

The Biden administration estimates upward of 15 million people — one-sixth of the roughly 90 million Americans currently receiving Medicaid benefits — could lose coverage, a finding that independent analysts pretty much agree with. Those are coverage losses tantamount to a major economic downturn: By comparison, from 2007 to 2009, amid the worst economic downturn of most Americans’ lifetimes, an estimated 9 million Americans lost their insurance.

Some will lose coverage because they are no longer eligible due to a change in income or circumstance, such as a child turning 18. States are supposed to direct these people toward other insurance options, such as the Affordable Care Act marketplaces.

At least he’s a ‘known’ quantity. You’d think there’d be more measures in place a second time around.

Better the devil you know… I guess…

Probably a reflection that 40%+ of the country is conservative, religious bigots.

This is a poll of registered Republicans, remember, not of the wider population.

Hopefully the polling is stuffed - like a lot of polling these days.

I think one of the issues for any challenger to Trump is twofold:

  1. he has a 30% baseline level support that has drunk the kool aid and is rusted on; and

  2. if you run against him, be prepared for a brutal campaign with nothing off limits.

It’s a difficult proposition for any challenger.

The democrats will also do what they can to try and get Trump the nomination as they will be confident that Biden can defeat him again. They would be worried about a younger, more dynamic and less insane GOP nominee.

That’s pretty bad for Trump. He would be wanting higher than that.

And there’s something to be said about that.
He and now Haley are the only actual declared candidates.
DeSantis is hasn’t actually said he’s running, although everyone is presuming.

Trump will be running as the ‘safe, stable Republican’

That didn’t work out so well for them last time.
