Together with the fact that he appears on screen to be pure slime. Its probably an act, after all, it appears that many of the Fox hosts are acting in a political soap opera.
Carlson has been eyeing a shot at the US Senate with a medium term goal of a Presidential run.
This will stir up some of the sitting representatives in the US Congress.
At the very least, it will give Carlson more time to work on his theories of scrotal tanning to boost masculinity.

The GOP needs to play the long term game, look to 2028, not focus on 2024, because Trump is compromised and past his use by date and they need to dump him. Short term loss for long term gain.
As to the Democrats, they need to tell Joe to pass the baton to someone in the 50-60 age group preferably. Is there a charismatic Democrat in the wings? Surely there is.

According to the LA Times, Carlsonās departure is related to a lawsuit filed by a former producer, Abby Grossberg, who is ccusing Carlson and male producers of presiding over a misogynistic workplace. Carlsonās senior executive producer, Justin Wells, has also reportedly been terminated.
Curious timing for a dismissal for the Grossberg lawsuit.
