US politics - fried (part 5)

What will happen when he gets home detention at his cheesy golf club? While his followers rot in federal prison. Surely then they’ll realise they’ve been had?

Actually it isn’t. Unless he is ruled as ineligible to run due to a crime against the United States, simply being a criminal does not prevent you from running for President, and in fact Trump would not be the first to campaign from prison.

So, is the rumour about Biden stepping down in the next few months and Michelle Obama putting her hand up for the democratic nomination total bullshit?

I’m going to be over in the US during election time. Was there in 2016. Wouldn’t surprise me if Trump gets back in.

The Michelle Obama thing isn’t based on any reality. Just name recognition.

Both candidates are well beyond the average US male life expectancy. The election is still 8 months away. “Step down” could easily be a non choice.

Australia has tall poppy syndrome.

The US has small poppy syndrome. Those who are cut down must be smashed and ground into the dirt, ensuring they never grow higher than the tall ones.

The above posts are exactly why Trump is so desperate to win again. He sees that his only hope of salvation. It is an incredibly dangerous scenario.

As regards the Civil Fraud trial by Justice Engoron, which is a bench trial, there is talk about potential reference to the Skreli ( pharma Bro ) case, as precedent for levels of disgorgement and banning participation in business in New York. As a bench trial, such precedent is of key importance in justifying the judge’s orders on the inevitable appeal.
There is also the question of the same defence used by both Skreli and Trump attorneys that the fraud was not fraud because no money was lost by the victims of the fraud. LOL its sort of like saying attempted murder is not attempted murder because the victim did not die.

Has to be utter bullshit.

Michelle Obama has no right to be anywhere near a position of any power. Just like Trump.

Michelle Obama has repeatedly stated that she is not interested in running for political office…but the rumour mill continues to maintain that she will.

If she did decide to run, she has the right to do so and also has a way better background for such a role compared to Trump. She is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School so educationally, she is miles ahead of Trump.

She has been around politics for years, has seen how the presidency works and, (imo) most importantly, is smart enough to listen to advisers.

Whether America is ready for an African American Woman to be president is probably the biggest issue she would face.

being the wife of a president doesnt make you fit for office. she would be given no respect on an international, or even national, level by way too many… and probably rightfully so

I’m rather over political nepotism. That goes for Bushes, Clintons, and Kennedys as well.

If Michelle really wants it (and I don’t think she does), then she probably should run for a House seat first. Even that would be queue-skipping to some degree compared to people who start at local or state levels.

Among other things, America has a big problem with many of the same people remaining in power well past their welcome, and I extend that to families.

What a load of rubbish…she was highly respected for the way she performed her role as the First Lady and how she involved herself in issues such as education, women’s rights and assistance for military families

ok, thanks for your opinion.

im not sure whats funny? I respect your view on the matter, but i disagree.

I suppose this is an example of how the written word can be misconstrued due to lack of context.

I clearly misread what you said (specifically the intent behind the words).

My bad…

Can you expand on that?
