US politics - is weird (part 6)

A choice between rolling the dice on WWIII or getting a president that, whilst highly unlikable, pretty much tries to deliver on his election promises. mmmm, gee thats a hard one

Your willful ignorance of reality, most exemplified in the climate change thread, is really like a form of performance art

Not a believer myself, but given the probability of moving your head at the same time someone tries to put a bullet in it … well whats the chances, so I can see their point :innocent:

The question asked for a Yes or No answer!

Clearly your comprehension levels are about as good as your those of your hero.

As for this:

Apart from the tax cuts to his billionaire mates, which promise(s) did he keep?

He didn’t “drain the swamp”…he basked in it like a pig in sh*t

He didn’t “build the wall”

And what he did get built, he didn’t “make the Mexicans pay for it”

He didn’t bring American jobs home

He didn’t improve employment

He didn’t improve the economy.

So again, what did he actually achieve?

I’d vote for him if he stops the war mongering :thought_balloon:

I refer to my post from above

Fixed.

If the Donald gets in he will, by his own self-admitted, half-baked plan, start the Putin love mongering - by trying to give Putin 20% of Ukraine in perpetuity for a ceasefire. Then Xi will want a piece of the action.

If you think you will avoid any conflict and all future wars with Authoritarian states by voting in a weak, traitorous, appeasing fool as president of the most powerful democracy then I have a bridge to sell you.

He’s also mates with Nick Hind.

Its not that Trump is abnormal, has a spectrum of personality disorders and may even be psychotic and unfit to be POTUS. That is self evident.

Its that about 1/3rd of the US population think he is normal, and even after 12 years have not realised he has a spectrum of personality disorders and may even by psychotic.

It is estimated that about 3% of people in the USA have psychosis, while about 10% have a personality disorder.

So, I guess thats why about half of his followers think he is normal. The rest probably are at least 2 sigma below average intelligence.

The first of what I expect to be regular reminders that the narrative about the war in Ukraine leading to WW3 is a Russian propaganda tool aimed at reducing western support. There is a lot of steps from here up the escalation ladder before nuclear use a real threat and Russia has not taken a single move that is legitimately of concern.

Do not fall for propaganda of a hostile nation state. Also, question any information bubble that regurgitates propaganda.

Here’s how Vlad could easily bail out Trump and influence the election, just by buying the shares no-one else wants:

Suppose you are spending $200–300 billion a year on a war that you’d like to win as soon as possible. The US presidential race is just about 50–50, and one of the candidates has promised to cut off aid to Ukraine. Total campaign spend on the race by this candidate has been, so far, less than one day of your expenditure on the war.

So, if you could double his spend, and that reduces the length of the war by two days or more (years maybe!), it’s a great idea.

Problem: you can’t legally donate money to a campaign, nor can you spend money on political ads without disclosure. Disclosure would possibly reverse the very effect you are trying to achieve.

You could, instead, buy a bunch of stock from the presidential candidate. It really doesn’t matter what the price is, the point is that you send enough money to enable massive media buys and rallies in a few key states. It’s irrelevant what the stock does afterwards, or what the company is or does.

But wait, wouldn’t an entity which buys more than 5% of a class of voting equity be required to file a 13D with the SEC, thus identifying themselves?

No! They can file a 13G if they “do not intend to influence the control of the issuer”. That means, if they are making a passive investment in DJT and they don’t intend to vote their shares, then they can file a 13G which doesn’t require that they disclose the source or amount of the funds used for the purchase.

So a fund could take a cheque from a foreign country, buy all that stock, file the 13G and nobody’s wiser.

Do you legitimately believe that or are you intentionally being a caricature?

Bomber 2+2=1408 is a renowned Climate thread troll - drops turds, sticks around for a bit of onanistic jolly, strings very good faith posters along with promises of fidelity but fact ruins him eventually and he does the ninja smoke bomb.

Don’t give him time here just because he’s taken a horrible beating on the other thread. Blitz needs to harden up, no pity, no regret. How else can we provide an example to the footy team we all suffer attachment to?

Another view.
Many people in the USA are sick of their lying, corrupt, self serving political class and yearn for a person to emerge who is not a politician. Like Regan, he was just a Hollywood actor, he became POTUS and did a “good job”, so why couldn’t a charismatic reality TV identity do a Reagan. The other alternative would be a war hero but they are in short supply.

The problem is Trump is a lying, corrupt, self serving politician. Just the type of person the folk were trying to avoid. So what choice do they have in the end? No doubt many believe Harris is just like the rest of them, maybe worse.
