US politics - is weird (part 6)

Like many things, this is one avenue we do not need to follow the US down.

Just increase penalties for electoral fraud to deter the (seriously) few dozen insane zealots, rather than deny many hundreds (thousands? tens of?) their constitutional rights.

The number of booths open on a working day, plus the location of booths , amounts to voter suppression…

You’re welcome to your opinion, I find it strangely fascinating the amount of people obsessed with the side I’d take :joy: I’ll give you a hint, if I actually supported him I’d just say it, do you think I’m scared of a thread full of lefties (or righties) that get emotionally damaged because I’m criticising their team, or do something as post an article that isn’t complimentary? I criticise both, and will continue to. I didn’t think there was a 50-50 rule despite me clearly saying I wouldn’t vote for either. I wanted to explore basically a mostly undiscussed topics such as Kamala’s policies and interviews as she is a hidden and new candidate, which some seem to base that as a vote for Trump. For such a big Kamala interview mostly no one even said anything until I brought it up and wanted to talk about it.

And just so we’re clear, you haven’t found a single quote where I said I’m supporting Trump, just to make that absolutley clear and call out the “inaccuracy” you just made.

Could you also please direct me to all these articles that are pumping up his tyres? I posted one article suggesting Kamala be cautious in getting ahead of herself, one post that included Trumps and Bernie Sanders’ interview with Theo, and a CNN video that showed Kamala winning and her path to victory via the electorial college.

Do Republicans or Democrats do this more? And why isn’t this a bigger issue, why isn’t either party kicking up more of a stink about it?

Republicans gerrymander a lot more, although both parties are guilty of it.

There has been some talk of making election days national holidays, or at least shift them to weekends, but neither party is particularly motivated to do this for reasons which should be obvious to any observer of American politics

I wonder if the people buying into it know why they’re doing it

It has been a big issue in the last two elections at least. More suppression of poorer non white voters in the south.
In the last election, the queues were so long that some didn’t get to the booths before they closed. In a few cases the more ethical State electoral staff held off closing by the appointed time. The ones that hadn’t legislated to close by say 6pm.
Additionally, the Dem supporters supplied food and water to encourage voters to stay in the queue. There were some remarkable scenes on the TV on voting day.
The US doesn’t have the equivalent of our AEC.

I believe the provision of water to voters waiting in line was outlawed in some states.

They’re handing out Kamala signs at their own convention? Why not Harris?

owning it is a smart move

Obama to Kamala has a nice ring to it.
It could appeal to all those Americans with non Anglo names.

Kamala has music in it. Donald is an incontinent duck.

Not sure HTF American politicians get anything done. They spend 9/10 of their time in election mode.

Would be exhausting as a member of the public over there.

Imagine when Donald fires all the people who actually do the work. Which he has said he will do and replace with lickspittles and cronies for the biggest grift ‘you’ve ever seen’.

Boris Johnson was a poor man’s Trump, but far less dangerous. Boris just saw the job as a toy to play with, he could always retreat to the comfort of his own class if he misbehaved.
For transactional Trump, nothing will stand in his way to hold on to power . He now knows how things work and the Presidency is his get out of jail card.

It might well be his get out out of jail card, but he has to win it yet BA. Polls continue to lean towards Harris in many of those battleground states.

And if he loses it won’t be him fessing up the Presidency on Jan 6th 2025. He’ll be in Mar a Lago bleating out electoral fraud MAGA missives on Truth Social for a few days. And then the caravan will have begun to move on.
The GOP will walk away and the Prosecuters will redouble their efforts to see him brought to justice and pay his many bills.

Sarah Ferguson is going to interview Scaramuchi on Tuesday evening for his views. That should be comedy at its finest.

Mooch has already coined a new one, the Melania Standard, by which the hatred of Trump can be measured. He claims her hatred is second only to William Barr’s and that she wants Kamabla to win.

Grifting gnats come back to pester you, it’s a trial for poor old sack of lard.

Why has Barr said he endorses Trump if he hates him?
