And in further news. I enjoy the odd spot of Fallout on the old xbox but not sure anyone is looking forward to the real deal

“The interior department announced it would fast-track permitting for a uranium mine in Utah, part of Trump’s effort to shorten environmental reviews and accelerate certain energy projects.

Secretary of the interior, Doug Burgum, said in a statement:

America is facing an alarming energy emergency because of the prior administration’s Climate Extremist policies. President Trump and his administration are responding with speed and strength to solve this crisis.

An environmental assessment of the Velvet-Wood mine will be completed in just 14 days, far shorter than the typical one-year timeline, the agency said.“

No one was dumb enough to start building factories on Donald Trump’s word…oh wait, MAGA.

He really is a child, isn’t he.

Gotta get that Nobel Peace Prize. If this works it was definitely my idea.

“ * Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the possibility of Trump’s participation in talks with Russia in Turkey on Thursday calling it “the right idea”. Trump – now off on a trip to the Middle East – had earlier said: “I was thinking about actually flying over there. There’s a possibility of it, I guess, if I think things can happen, but we’ve got to get it done.”

Just another day. Blindfold copy paste and see what you scoop up really

“ > Trump clearly sees the Gulf as a place where there’s big money to be made, for the US and for businesses like his. The Trump Organization announced a new luxury real estate deal in Qatar just two weeks ago, and also has projects in Jeddah, Dubai and Oman.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia are among the countries lobbying hard to gain access to advanced AI chips exported from the US. The Trump administration last week rescinded a Biden-era rule that aimed to block China’s access to advanced chips via third parties by capping how many could be exported to most countries. It has said it will replace it with a new rule, leaving open the question of whether the Gulf states will face any restrictions.

Here, not the most insightful commentary but a basic summary of what changes, and the echoing repercussions. Not sure this is even a discussion tbh.

The genuinely complicated factor in these negotiations is that “winning” with Trump is often impossible, because the relationship itself is lose-lose. Trump does not appear to recognize the possibility of a positive-sum engagement, and his attempts to turn a productive connection into an exploitative one create losses for both sides. This is most obvious in trade, where Trump’s protectionist instincts have spread pain around the globe without generating any gains. His extortion of domestic firms and civil society has likewise undermined some of America’s most admired sources of innovation, for no offsetting benefit other than the expansion of Trump’s own power.

Trump is a classic bully who craves submission and fears conflict. His fervent supporters want him to be Michael Corleone, but he’s more like Biff Tannen. Standing up to Trump does not mean that you win. But giving in guarantees that you lose.

I really don’t see how China called his bluff here. They have settled for what was the first round of tariffs ie 30% on China with them setting lower rates on US imports. They can go ahead with import substitutions (eg AUS beef) but basically this “deal” takes them back to the first week after Trump imposed these tariffs.

They retaliated with tit-for-tit^ tariffs when they were expressly told not to…

The biggest thing that has changed is the way the world perceives America.

New deals have been done to go around America that might actually end up being good for everyone.

I mean look at Europe pressuring Russia now with sanctions.

Trumps stupidy is serving everyone, just not America.

Chinese companies expect more tariff changes

published at 23:09 12 May

Chen Yan
Reporting from Hong Kong

Companies in China are preparing for more tariffs down the line, despite the 90-day pause announced earlier today.

“To be honest, many Chinese companies no longer believe that tariffs will remain unchanged. For businesses, the best they can do is build a moat around their company before the next round of tariffs arrives,” said Elaine Li, head of Greater China at Atlas Ways, which offers services for Chinese enterprises’ global development.

Elaine Li told BBC Chinese that for many Chinese exporters, the latest tariff reductions are only temporary.

The rapid changes in tariffs led them to a more diversified global strategy, and they have already moved from getting orders passively to exploring international markets proactively. “It’s hard to wake someone who’s pretending to sleep, but it’s even harder to put someone to sleep when has just awakened.”
