EVERYTHING IS DOWN, INCLUDING EMPLOYMENT, THE STOCK MARKET AND REAL WAGES. AND MY APPROVAL RATINGS.
WE ARE WINNING.

As that robot White House Spox noted, we are transitioning to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, when the Golden Age of America begins.
i reckon itâs because itâs been a long held dream of financial conservative types to replace income taxes with consumption-based taxes
but iâm probably overthinking it tbh
Newsom likes watching the Charlie Kirk Tik Tok videos debating kids at colleges. Newsomâs 13 year old son loves Charlie Kirk, wanted to skip school to come to the interview.
first 20 mins just talking about Charlie Kirk not being university educated, how he got started in the industry, the amount of College drop outs, and potential changes to college degrees.
How Democrat social media sucks.
Democrats should come out closer to the middle like to protect womens sports.
Talked about triple jumper in news recently. Kirk asked Mewsom to come out in support of protecting womens sports.
Newsom - on the issue of sports - only ten athletes effected. In his own friends group - even they are telling him to call it out (trans athletes). The issue of fairness is legit.
Republicans weaponised the issue during election.
Every Democrat voted against the recent billâŚIts an 80-20 issue that Democrats are choosing the 20% side.
Post 20-20 Democrats went all in on woke which is outside traditional US customs.
Defund police
Legalise racial prejudice.
race based teaching
DEI - Newsome been about for years,
Kirk - Democrats canât survive long form podcasts. They are still playing in old media environment.
Newsom - RFK could when he was a Democrat, Sanders could.
Newsom - Trump has collapsed the conservative movement. Congress is Holding trump to account right now.
Kirk - Out of top 10 long form podcast 8/10 is conservative.
Rogan, Megyn Kelly, Theo Vonn, Paul Brothers, Ben Shapiro, Matt Walsh
theres a single one on the left - pod save amercia which is a bunch of Obamas Broâs agreeing with each other and saying that republicans not very smart.
Newsom - turned it around in 2 years. They can do it again. If you were in my camp.
Kirk B+ Advice - I could design your presidential run in a way you would win.
California is to politics for Democrats what Florida is to Republicans.
You have to go to war with your own party on 3 main things
Newsome any Democrats you respect?
I used to have respect for Bernie Sanders, but know hesâs a Neocon now.
I have respect for Bobby Kennedy and Tulsi Gabbard.
When somebody has a disagreement, you donât need to kick them out.
Is there room for a pro life candidate in the Democrat party. Newsom - yes I think there could be.
We have pro choice republicans.
Kirk - Diversity is our Strength
Should mass asset managers compete against college grads for houses? 1/4 houses are owned by Private equity,
Newsom - Its a long term issue. Biggest issue is NIMBYism, other is interest rates, lower those and will get more investment.
Newsom mentioned the gala dinner with George Clooney where Biden showed he was losing his faculties.
Newsom: Have you seen any mental decline in Trump.
Kirk: No of course not.
Newsom: How often do you talk to him
Kirk: Once or twice a week.
Newsom: Last idea you gave him
Kirk: I donât think Canada should be the 51st state, we already have California and dont need any more Libs in the country.
It was all fairly civil, almost felt like Newsome got him in to get some advice on his presidential campaign.
Not overthinking. For whatever the division of powers between central and sub central governments, the US is the outlier in lacking exclusive or primary power over indirect taxes. It only has the excise power, sector limited. It canât have a GST/VAT system. Maybe itâs got something to do with the Civil War and negotiated deals with the Confederates benefiting the South.
The Civil War was about more than the Blacks and the Union didnât come out the victors solely because of its wins on the battlefield.
Bob Carr would have the aswers.
Not sure itâs MASSIVE
They have a tiny amount on order.
It makes good sense though for them and will be interesting to see which way they go as the US can still veto some of the other aircraft they would be considering
It doesnât really matter who owns shares in a public company unless there is a major shareholder with enough shares to get a director on the board or, worse, have a controlling interest. I would not consider any of those companies to be American.
Maybe. Talking to one of the economists at work - I asked him WTF is Trump trying to do with the tariffs? He said one theory is Trump is trying to kickstart multi industry manufacturing in the US - to become more self reliant (eg in case of a war with China). Some traditional manufacturing industries in the US are currently sub scale (ie US relies on imports). Itâs short term protection until some of these industries become big enough to compete against their global competitors. In many heavy industries you need scale to leverage/spread your fixed cost base; otherwise your per unit production cost is just too high to compete.
Trump also wants to entice foreign investment back into the US. The incentive for these foreign companies being hit by tariffs is if you make your stuff in the US you can sell into the US market without tariffs. India does a similar thing with big tariffs on particular goods made offshore and imported into India.
He said Trump is also hoping to use tariffs to raise government revenue then cut taxes. Itâs just shifting the tax take burden.
The other theory he offered is it could be Trump is just completely nuts and none of the above is his motivation. In the meantime markets and companies around the world will be materially disrupted.
Yes it does.
say Good arthur is AU citizen owns all shares in BHP, then he receives all dividends and potentially spends in AU dollars including a few over seas trips etc. some of the dollars flow through the economy, trickling along somewhat.
If Good Arthur is a UK or US citizen then all the profits paid out in dividends are sent off shore and spent in the UK or USA and we are relying solely on the govt taxing the corporation adequately.
BwaahahahahahaâŚ
Oh mercy, just imagine!
Fair enough, although the UK or US Good Arthur would probably have to pay withholding tax on his dividends.
There is another consideration with this supposedly foreign ownership though. Letâs look at the ownership of NAB. The three largest shareholders, with 19% of the company, are State Street Corporation, The Vanguard Group and Blackrock Group. These are all US asset managers running Super funds, ETFs and unit trusts. They are the official owners of the shares but, for their Australian operations, distributions flow to their Australian investors. These US companies get to clip the ticket but they donât really own the shares even if they officially do.
Yep and some of the aussie superfunds enable those big us entities to short and manipulate the market.
I.e say Australian super buys 100million of Pilbara Minerals or Mineral resources stock. They on sell it to State Street or similar who buy it back at a later date, meanwhile the superfunds clip the ticket earning interest and being a long term holder.
The other side as well is with all the ETF flows of the funds to state street / vanguard etc, their votes can become important.
Their votes should be important if they are representing their investors properly. That doesnât mean they are turning NAB or whoever into American companies though, and that is what this discussion in about.
No I thought discussion was more if the majority owners of aluminium/steel companies are foreign owned, then less to worry about Tarriffs as those are the people it is mainly hurting. Apart from it may impact jobs as well.
The discussion went off on a tangent claiming that it is virtually impossible to boycott US companies here because all the largest Australian public companies are majority US owned, with the implication that that makes them actually US companies.
Probably right.
Support small business is best.
MLB is the only one of those I have. I donât watch American TV unless the main stars are not American.
