They’ve said a president can’t be prosecuted for ‘official acts’ and then left it entirely up to themselves to define ‘official act’ on a case by case basis.
Which given the current court makeup functionally means that Trump can do anything he likes but a possible future Dem president will not be so lucky.

USA removing oceanic instruments set up to monitor the AMOC/ Gulf Stream collapse. Fair enough, if it flips the East coast of the USA will turn into an ice block each winter, but its already too late. Just drop out of the climate accords, drill baby drill, remove wind generators and make sure it happens. This Administration is insane.

Speculation I’ve read is that this is nothing about climate. Trump and the us right have pretty effectively destroyed any vestige of an American effort to try to every runaway climate disaster with these still in place. Nobody who is anti-climate-action now is going to be convinced to change their mind by mere data.
An alternative possibility is that this is all about deep sea mining. Preemptively getting rid of the monitoring that might detect the damage it causes when trump starts handing out permits like candy.

I had very good friends in Washington who were scientists - one was involved in identifying the holes in the ozone layer. (Remember that? For the benefit of youngsters, back in those days catastrophic melanoma-causing UV was averted because politicians eventually listened to the science).
Anyway, back on topic. He had a seminar in the early 2000’s to alert people to the forthcoming global heating crisis. A couple of George Jr’s staff attended. My friend talked to them afterwards and they literally said “We don’t care about the science. Why should we worry about facts?”

No one really knows for sure what will happen to the rest of the world if the AMOC falters, but Europe UK and Ireland will seriously freeze in winter. I guess that will make the USA great again. So maybe theres method in Trumps insanity
