This is very sad. He was widely admired and respected. He, Bruce and Sandy OTI scky the three modern, and loved footy commentators. Denis was as good as any.

Just the quality between what he (and Bruce) offered compared to what is served up now. Chalk and cheese. Couldn’t get more opposite.

Oh no. That’s terrible news. He was awesome!

He was an excellent caller of cricket on ABC radio in Perth before he went commercial.
US networks tried very hard to get him to the USA to call NFL.
Also coached West Perth in the WAFL (not very successfully, though).

His call of Kieran Perkins Atlanta 1500m gold is an all time great.

And

Peeter Vaan Daan Hoogenband!

When I saw 14 unread posts I knew it was a big one.

I don’t think it’s unfair to suggest that TV football coverage died when he pulled the pin (though even then, it felt like the TV execs had forced him to become a caricature in his last couple of years).

RIP…

I also lament the state of AFL commentary.

I’m not interested in frat boy humour and who can come up with the best in-joke. Grow the fark up.
