When you’re finished with your updating duties. Wouldn’t mind your opinion on SEH and his best position. For me I’d like to see him take Shiels role ASAP. Just a better user of the ball.

He has the kind of skill set and athletic attributes that really allow him to play in every third of the ground. Speed, vertical leap, marking prowess, ability to dart his kicks. So I’d keep an open mind and play him in whatever role we think he can help the AFL side in. If Duursma got injured (which he regularly does) bring him in on a wing. Same goes with Shiel or if Shiel’s form deteriorates. I guess the only thing I’d need to see a bit more of to form a complete opinion of him would be his one on one contested work under pressure in defence.

Shiel has definitely already been tried at wing and he had no idea, likely also lacks the required endurance as he is more a power runner.

I think he has looked promising at HB this preseason with his ability to take metres and his experience.

But, the concerns are that he is taking games away from Roberts and Saad who are the most AFL ready in our reserves and need games to develop. And it goes against the stage of development we are in as a team, so I’m not sure the marginal improvement we get from him over the aforementioned is worth it in the broader context.

Yeah sorry, I wasn’t advocating Shiel play on a wing. I was saying if Shiel gets injured or form deteriorates then SEH could be an option at half back perhaps. But I prefaced it by saying I’d like to see a little more of his one on one work. For now, wing looks a nice spot for SEH to me. But there are options. Even HFF.

As on overall comment on our VFL outfit this year (and that includes our AFL listed players who will play mainly in the VFL) we really do possess a weapon and that’s pace. Unwin, Nguyen, Peris, and SEH (when there) will especially be important both in terms of breaking away with ball in hand as well as applying defensive pressure.

Especially when you see the outcome of the Brodie Smith collision with Moraes last week

The VFL tribunal are much harder than the AFL tribunal. I guess not as many people see the incident, so they do not care about getting humiliated because of their incompetence.

tbh he was a rookie pick with a lot to work on, I’m sure his expectations have been heavily managed
