I’m not sure if Hately and O’Neill are playing (i.e.our VFL players of AFL quality) but I do think our VFL team might battle a bit this year. Which I know isn’t a novel idea :sweat_smile:

I guess it’s a practice match so that synergy is probably not quite built yet but you do see a lot of things like two blokes going up for the same mark, guys blazing away rather than doing the team thing of centering the footy when there were teammates on.

Obviously more AFL representation will help.

Is it a bit weird that only Draper, Caddy and Hobbs are playing this from the AFL list?

The Daveys, Roberts, Lual and Hayes didn’t get much AFL practice match time and will play lots of VFL during the year. Thought they’d get a run too.

You only have to go back to Caldwells 1st preseason with us, the club live streamed the intra club scratch match.
It’s fan engagement and makes people feel connected, valued and engage with the club.

I’ve seen the dogs, and a couple of others do it.

It costs nothing/little to do, kids live stream themselves doing all sorts of stuff online, I think a well funded pro sports team could do it for their paying members.

I think the AFL player agreement states that they have to have the weekend off before round one (or something like that) but special permission can be given for players who have missed chunks of preseason due to injury.
Someone can call me out if this is wrong.
