2018 Rd 3 @ Victoria Park: Collingwood 16.10 (106) d Essendon 12.6 (78)
FORM COMING IN
Essendon (6th, 7-6) has suffered consecutive losses to the Casey Demons, Richmond and then to Werribee in a one-point thriller last round. Collingwood (7th, 7-5) arrested a four-loss mid-season slump with a 58-point defeat of Werribee two weeks ago before a bye.
KEY QUESTION
Will the Bombers come to play from the start? Essendon has suffered from slow starts to games in recent times, having trailed at quarter time against the Box Hill Hawks (by 15 points), Casey (18), Richmond (25) and Werribee (five) over the last four weeks – and kicking a total of just four first-term goals in that period.
KEY STAT
The Magpies lost the clearance count to the Bombers by 20 in Round 3 but still generated 13 more inside-50s en route to a winning score, while last week Essendon similarly beat Werribee by 18 in clearances but conceded six more inside-50s. Dan Jordan’s team will likely look to polish up its ball movement going forward this week.
