A full day of footy awaits Bombers and Blues fans on Sunday. Their VFL teams will do battle at Windy Hill, before the traditional AFL rivals meet at the MCG later in the afternoon.
The Bombers almost knocked off ladder-leaders Richmond last round but a slow start ultimately proved costly and saw them slip a rung to third.
The Northern Blues maintained their spot in the top eight despite a second half fade out against similarly-placed Sandringham at Marvel Stadium last Sunday. Pat Kerr continued his goal-kicking form for the Blues and is the equal-leader in the ‘Frosty’ Miller Medal race on 17 goals with Port Melbourne’s Jordan Lisle and Box Hill’s Jackson Ross.
Essendon has proven to be a scoring juggernaut in the opening eight rounds of the season, averaging just shy of 100 points a game (#1) and boasting the healthiest percentage (160.6%).
They’ve stacked up well defensively too, with their 62.6 points a game against, ranked second in the competition.
Their under siege ruck division will get a timely boost with the inclusion of Zac Clarke, while mid-season draftee Will Snelling has been thrown straight into the Bombers’ engine room. The former Port Adelaide player had been enjoying a stunning season with West Adelaide in the SANFL, averaging 29.7 disposals, 9.6 tackles and 6 clearances a game.
For the Blues, banished Carlton defender Dale Thomas will play his 5th career VFL match and first since 2017 after being dropped from the senior side following an alcohol-related incident.
Impressive first-year midfielder Frank Anderson returns from a two-week suspension that likely cost him a mid-season AFL opportunity, while former Western Bulldogs key defender Kieran Collins could make his Northern Blues debut after overcoming a niggling foot injury.
Since re-entering the VFL in 2013, Essendon have defeated the Northern Blues on all seven occasions, five of them at Windy Hill.

Yep, just came to this thread to note that. Win tomorrow and our percentage will be far superior once again.
Hopefully Geelong can pull a win off against Footscray, who are currently leading us by a draw versus a loss.
Very solid team given the injuries at the club, which really just goes to show that our injury list is quality rather than quantity.

Massive works going on at south yarra station. Building the underground line entrance. Cloud overcast cool . Not much wind at this stage but the game is at windy hill and will cop it when the change hits.
The frontal system is passing through warrnambool at 11am seems likely to hit windy hill around 1pm. There are showers associated with the front. There is a low just behind the front being fed by an upper atmosphere trough so make sure you have wet weather gear on. Go Bombers.
