Haven’t they. Should be good for them
No doubt our approach is to give players hope that they may end up on our list, but the problem is that other teams keep taking them.
Wow now Conforti as well, we will be in some strife this year should we fail to find anymore signings
We might have Jared Eckersley from the Suns VFL team joining us
What position is he?
192, stars suggests a key defender.
Yes trained today at the Hangar
@Paul_Cousins sooo how many of our VFL kids from last year are actually returning?
Seems like all our best ones have all bounced - Cootee, Bernacki, Conforti, Fitzgerald, McCarty, etc.
only one I know of is Sutton
There’s a few. As mentioned above Jake Sutton, plus off the top of my head Matt Foley, Will Madden, Will Hoare, Jake Moorehead, Macca Hallows, Mick Kiraly, Solly McKay, Luca Alessio and Carlos Egan. Might’ve missed one or two. The list isn’t anywhere near finalised of course but all those guys have been at training.
Got any idea if the January 24th NTFL game will be 100% VFL players?
Pretty sure it will yep, though have only heard that second hand at this stage.
I promise not to leave before or after the VFLW game.
Cheers!
I’m curious, how does the VFL program work with the AFL program? I see there’s a committee board for the VFL program, but I’m under the impression that there’s not a lot you or the board can do, so what’s the point of it? This isn’t a criticism by the way, I’m just curious.
There’s no committee or board for the VFL, just a President. All the other roles involved with the VFL are operational.
Not sure specifically what you’re asking about how the VFL & AFL work together?
Ah. What’s the president’s role, exactly? Never mind the other question.
I think the whole VFL/second tier thing is ridiculous and the sooner we go back to a national reserves comp, the better.
If it’s not possible financially for the interstate teams, then we should set up a Victorian AFL reserves comp separate to the VFL, that way the VFL can be finally a proper state and second tier league, and interstate teams can play in their respective state leagues.
The interstate leagues don’t want them in the comp and the teams don’t want to be in the state leagues. A national reserves comp will come but not until probably 2027 at earliest.
As much as I want to see a National reserves comp I just don’t envision it being like everyone hopes.
What do you mean? A fixture that doesn’t follow the seniors’ or no home games at their grounds (windy hill, Footscray, etc etc)?
It’ll be worse than now.
Far worse.
Players will be managed through the games and there will be absolutely no care as to whether teams win or lose.
It’ll also be perfect for VFLW back to backs or for curtain raisers to AFLW (should it ever have more of an overlap with other football seasons).
The secondary leagues are already more about player development than team competitiveness in the last decade. And that would be even more pronounced over the next decade.
