VFLW 2024 Squad

Thank you for all your efforts in the VFLW program. The team achieved the ultimate success under your reign and we all have great memories from that.
Enjoy the free time and see you in the outer!

I still can’t believe they let multiple dirty stinkin’ Blitzers touch The Shiny Thing.

I, for one, move that we make a Napoleon style coup on the club and install Katie Lio as EMPRESS OF ESSENDON!

Whose with me??!!

Congrats on a great career, Catherine.

Essendon’s women’s program (is that too many apostrophes?) is becoming one of the standard bearers of the competition, and you had a lot to do with that. I hope you can look back on it in the future and feel good about the contribution you made to the game.

I think you’re underestimating your drunken work on Twitter telling soooooooo many people they were wrong for not agreeing it was zero days since an EFC premiership.

Scratch out the arrow on the right…

In case you missed it the first time, luckily there is also a tiny little arrow up on Bullant Hill.

Ash Melnikas is 29yo today.

FWIW, Emily Gallagher is from Montmorency not Greenvale, and is on our primary list. Ava Jordan on the dev listing.

Still not much actual info on her, but the club bit helps identify that she was B&F there in 2021 (and at least partially a ruck), and is likely a bit older than your standard junior.

@theDJR,

I hear Ellie Speghen is currently training with the Essendon VFLW squad. We are friends of her parents. Keep an eye on this kid, she is a great athlete and a great person as well.

FWIW, in my few visits I have not seen her at training – and I wouldn’t miss a legit six-footer!

Does she do more than ruck? Because we likely need to lose at least three rucks (+ Wales?) before she’ll get a game on that basis.

Thanks for the reply. She is also an elite basketballer, so I reckon she would have good ball skills.

With the AFL men’s team having 6 200 cm giants in their potential 1st 22, I will keep my fingers crossed she can find a place in the squad.

P.S. It is Sbeghen.

Rolling back to February 2022, when I went to the Calder vs Bendigo game, the ones who hadn’t already been officially added to our list were:

  • Prpic – now on 15 games with us
  • Gaylor – on our AFLW list, and probably playing VFLW shortly
  • Sbeghen – current discussion!
  • Williams – has played for us and Casey
  • Painter – IT’S TIME. BRING HER IN.
  • Ryan – us, Hawks, back to us

Unlike every previous season, we haven’t officially listed any <18 year olds. A list of 36 before you consider AFLW insertions is probably big enough.

And happy 20th birthday to Maddy Ford.

Came in last year, never left, now on 10 games straight. Only Sophie Molan is on a bigger streak – but given she didn’t play in Darwin, you could argue Ford+Chaston+Manfre are our joint current leaders.
