VFLW 2025 Squad

Bring. Her. In.

Chloe Baker-West (Calder Cannons / Vic Metro)
Small Utility | 163cm | 02/02/2007

The reigning back-to-back Vic Metro Under 16s MVP, Baker-West has had an interrupted Coates Talent League Girls season due to injury and school football commitments. A natural ball-winner who can easily rack up 30-plus – and sometimes 40-plus – disposals, Baker-West has been deployed on all three lines. She gets into the right spaces, has an elite tank and is strong in the hips to shrug off would-be tacklers. Has missed this year’s national championships due to injury but is no stranger to the big occasion.

Oh, and also:

Jade McLay (Calder Cannons / Vic Metro)
Tall Utility | 177cm | 01/02/2007

One of the strongest players on the list, McLay is a towering presence who can play on all three lines. Though boasting the height of a key position player, McLay is just as adept in midfield at winning clearances, with a booming kick that can breakdown opposition defensive zone. Her hands overhead are reliable and she competes just as well at ground level. Has had to balance her Cannons commitments with her school football ones, but earned a spot on Vic Metro’s list for the national championships.

Some other teams have arguably pre-emptively named entire leadership teams for 2025.

But per their B&F acceptance speech, Chaston is very happy to stay with us.

It’s all about the green boots.

She’s been beasting it up in various sports all over the country during “off”-season.

They have trial days for the VFLW?

Is this taking the p*ss or do all vfl women’s clubs do this?

All VFLW clubs do it.

Isnt that a bit…amatuerish?

Well, given many of them come from amateur leagues scattered all across the state, it seems an appropriate second cut (the first cut being invited after providing your details/history per the website).

I honestly would have thought there would be enough talent out there to build a squad without these kinds of days. When i see a “trial day” poster it makes me think cmon, its not auskick tryouts. Surely there’s enough talented girls out there

To me i would guess lack of staffing issues - eg no one’s going out scouting/watching amatuer leagues?

Our Tay Hart-Aluni and Dog’s captain/new Lambert-Pearce Medallist Dom Carbone named as Darwin’s best two players in the opening round of the NTFLW.

Elsewhere, Southern Districts won with our Krystal Russell and Maddi Shaw listed in their bests.

Note that all of the four players above are listed as “season permit” (and almost no one else is) so they are still linked to the VFLW.

Tiwi obliterated Wanders 130-1 :exploding_head: – that included movie stars Moreen and Puruntatameri kicking five goals between them.

Luckily it looks like the NTFL have somewhat got their ■■■■ together this season, and (minimal, partial) stats are available on both PlayHQ and myGameDay.

Ruby Mahony is going to Willy next season.

Faaaaaaaaaark.

And after I gave her a mention two days ago for being a training beast.

Second in the B&F

Maddi Shaw, hopefully still with us, has been in the Southern Districts’ best 5 across their first 6 games in this NTFLW season.

We’ve also lost Ellie Huggard to Williamstown

Willy is BEST IN DA BUSINESS at giving updates.

Sad but true

Lost another one to Williamstown.

This time it’s Krystal Russell.

Morrow over-performed but I was surprised that Russell didn’t grow into the first ruck role. Not helped by Wales and then Dyke stealing a large chunk of the season.
