Returning El safely to the ground

QUARTER THREE

  • 1:25 Huge tackle by Molan to kill the Hawk quick-break inside fifty
  • Froggy thinks it is very funny when two Hawks rush her to give away the 50m penalty
  • The below is at 2:35
  • 4:40 Jordan being a beast by killing 175cm Matilda van Berkel, not losing her feet, and with cleans hands into the instant goal. It’s ■■■■■■■ awesome. If it was in the AFL she’d probably get suspended for four weeks.
  • 15:05 Melnikas rundown tackle (yeah, I’ve skipped a lot of things I could have mentioned; that tackle was list item 24 for the quarter)
  • 16:30 listen to the yobbo and the bench go off for Bernardi’s tackle. Then she, as is Brendan Rhode’s preferred wording, “puts on the shake-n-bake” and embarrasses the Hawk on the mark.
  • 17:15 Bernardi bump to free the ball from the Hawk, sFord feeds it out nicely and Ava kicks to the goal square… MANFRE!
  • I have under-reported the defensive game of Thompson.

QUARTER FOUR

  • 1:45 for the knee into Molan, big fly, and the mark just dropped
  • Just thirty seconds later, Froggy making an important tackle as the last barrier to the Hawks running into goal.
  • 2:30 creative punch of the ball by Plummer back to Abbey – grabbing the ball would have got her tackled
  • MFord doing some great rebounds this quarter
  • The repeat blood rules (no time off) helped to minimise the stress of this last quarter a bit.
  • I repeat my comment re: Thompson. Those 8 game-leading tackles were SNUG and TIRING.
  • 15:00 Ava bravely and expertly runs backwards into the “uncontested” Hawk mark, and forces the stoppage.
  • WHERE’S HER HEAD, UMP? WHERE’S HER HEAD UMP! WHERE’S HER HEAD UMP! – ump says no.
  • These Hawks are developmentally-challenged when it comes to simply standing on a mark. Not talking fidgeting, we’re talking running five metres over the mark for no apparent reason.
  • Nice 60m penalty
  • 19:00 for excited Brendan not being loud enough to drown us out on Chaston’s goal

That was Jordan’s best game for us by a distance. But…

The top six above happens to be the top six for Fantasy Points (with Melnikas 7th there and equal 6th above, and with fellow equal 6th above Sarah Ford doing much more than her stats suggested).

And I’m not deviating far from it.

BEST: Chaston, Jordan, McDonald, Bernardi, MFord, Thompson

A rare rucking draw…

… but working to beat Price around the ground.
