That was a complete game by Dicker. Top tackles and top disposals and top clearances and top inside fifties: and the disposals were notably effective, not just invisible inside a pack.
Note we had the clear top three mids, for perhaps the first time this year – certainly in the absence of our AFLW players.
Next week versus the Bulldogs is simple. WIN and we’re in.
This is due to Williamstown playing Geelong next week, and to a lesser extent, Box Hill v Saints.
If Box Hill v Saints had a draw, both would finish above us, but we’d leap frog the loser of Williamstown v Geelong. A drawn Willi v Cats result is no go for the Cats if we win.
A loss to the Bulldogs means automatic elimination for us, even if the Seagulls smashed the Cats, as Fark Carlton plays Darebin, which means an easy win for them and they’d jump us.
Most of today’s standouts for us today are obvious per the stats, but special credit to Meg Ryan as CHF/ruck (an aggressive 16 disposals and one grab hands) and Maddy Pearson (particularly in the first half, where she repeatedly beat back attacks with good reading of the conditions).
Crap; I just remembered the mark Meg was not paid twenty from goal with the wind directly behind her. When the result is <6 points, moments really matter.
Meg Ryan has actually improved quite a bit this season.
She seems to be a lot more agile with the ball on the ground than earlier in the season.
One thing that is great about the VFLW that our men’s program could learn from is that there’s always a handful of players from the senior team in the crowd. The culture is very inclusive.
This directed at me? It well known that womens game is low scoring not as skillfull as the mens.
The AFL should be pumping money into the womens game to get the girls the best coaches, fitness and training faclities avaible majoirty of the girls that play footy are part timers. time to make it into a full time professional sport
It’s coming from a long way back.
It’s definitely better than it was pre-Covid.
And it’ll only going to get better int he next few years as football skills are more ingrained earlier in women sportsmen.
I’m definitely interested to follow AFLW when that kicks off later this year.
And not just us: any of us/Sts/Hawks/Casey of last year would be undefeated if in this year. Not clear why; it’s not overtly due to the different scheduling of VFLW vs AFLW, and the crappy scheduling of the U18 league is only fringe damage unless you’re lucky enough to have multiple Prespakii to call up.
The sentence in question was a grammatical mess, was pontification without knowledge, and at best a careless choice of emoji.
