VFLW - Round 14 vs Casey @ Windy Hill, 11:05AM Saturday 28 May 2022 - streaming from vfl.com.au

Mia arrived first.

All of the tap.

Little Mia kicks over the giant.

For @simmo41:

Barba was our clearance and disposal leader for the day.

Tierney thinks Johnson is stoppable (and she was in this case).

One of Sim’s two clearances.

This should have been a handy and stress-relieving goal by Doonan.

Tierney kicks the winning goal.

I know I say this often about Fede… but this WOULD have been Goal of the Year.

AND STILL… UNDEFEATED!

Essendon’s VFLW side has made history, holding off Casey in a cliffhanger to finish the home and away season undefeated as minor premiers for the first time ever.

With scores level at three-quarter time, forward Renee Tierney’s goal in the early stages of the fourth term proved the difference as the Bombers claimed a 4.3 (27) to 2.9 (21) victory at Windy Hill on Saturday.

The win sees the Bombers secure a home final and double chance in the four-week finals series.

Coming off consecutive thrillers against Hawthorn (draw, round 12) and Southern Saints (10-point win, round 13), Essendon again answered the challenge against the Demons, who led throughout stages of the second and third terms in a genuine arm-wrestle.

The Bombers were well beaten in disposals (195-222), inside 50s (24-40) and clearances (22-38), but were able to absorb Casey’s repeated attacks and be more efficient inside 50 than their third-placed opponent.

Ball-winners Georgia Nanscawen (14 disposals), Amelia Radford (14) and Jordan Zanchetta (11) were below their usual output, but combined for 31 tackles as the Bombers brought the pressure.

Tierney made her presence felt in her second game back from injury with two majors, while Alana Barba led the Bombers for disposals (17) for the first time since returning to the club mid-season after her AFLW stint with Gold Coast.

Federica Frew was held goalless, but her sizeable gap atop the Rohenna Young Medal Leading Goalkicker table saw her finish as the league leader with 29 majors.

The Bombers will have a week’s bye before their finals series commencing on the weekend of June 11/12, with the fixture to be revealed in the coming days.

Goals: Tierney 2, Clifford, MacDonald

Disposals: Barba 17, Nanscawen 14, Radford 14, Marshall 13, Tierney 13

Casual much?

‘Cause no one else answered: it appears to be AFLW-signee Caitlin Sargent.

Manfre turned up late because she played a game in the EDFL. Arrived in time to stick Currenti’s #12 over her blue Keilor gear, sing the song, and knock over G’s yellow edarotaG (and I bet she could spell that).

ESSENDON breakout forward Federica Frew is the 2022 Rohenna Young medallist, claiming a dominant eight-goal victory in the prestigious award after the home-and-away season drew to its exciting conclusion.

Frew went goalless in the Bombers’ narrow win over Casey Demons that completed an undefeated minor premiership (with two draws), but her lead was never going to be run down, with Hawthorn’s Jessie Williams also going goalless in her team’s win over Williamstown, being joined in the runner-up position by Geelong’s Mia Skinner.
