Ooh! VFL app now shows the top twenty players, not just top ten.

EDIT: Champion Data updated the stats after I compiled the below; so this is close but not “true”.

I only went down far enough to cover the stats leaders. Take these as indicative only – some obviously include the game vs SA as part of their season average, but some of them must have had at least three games already this year…

State of Play podcast suggests Bernardi will play this week.

The coach-deemed threats from their game vs Casey:

8 Chloe Hunt (COLL)
8 Tahlia Sanger (COLL)
5 Molly Eastman (COLL)
4 Dominique Carbone (COLL)

Some of the Pies must be really annoying…

Lily-Rose annoying, nooo…

She’s an intensely polite sweetie… off the field.

We’ve got the best umpire (Stark), but also the worst (blondie Tozer).

So to break that down (this would be easier if the team list on the EFC site was not two seasons out of date – Cat Phillips still there!)

IN:

  • C. Bernardi – as reported earlier
  • A. McDonald – as reported earlier, was a random illness last week
  • G. Belloni – AFLW-listed, 174cm mid/fwd, profile
  • M. Busch – AFLW, please don’t be a key defender
  • T. Chambers – AFLW, 176cm defender, profile
  • M. Dyke - AFLW (to be first ruck?)
  • A. Gaylor - AFLW
  • E. Gough - AFLW
  • S. Strong - AFLW, 166cm mid, profile

The description of the outs is vague (possibly to be read as Lily and Lucy unavailable, and the bottom five – including Tia – omitted).

OUT:

  • S. Molan (illness)
  • C. Murphy (injured) – EFC has now lost (at least) 6 rucks to injury in the past month
  • L. Bateman
  • L. Thompson
  • G. Azzopardi
  • T. Davidge
  • M. Mifsud
  • M. O’Connell
  • E. Tassiopoulos

We’re going to need to win this on individual brilliance, not consistency or team understanding. If the bottom five were omitted with others (e.g. Porter) retained, that’s some more seriously random ■■■■ unrelated to form.

Brendan Rhodes is more confident than I am:

Western Bulldogs and Essendon have both rolled out a host of AFLW-listed talent for their games against Darebin and Collingwood respectively, ensuring they will start clear favourites in their games.

And that’s despite him counting us as having 9 AFLW-listed when it is actually 10.

Elsewhere, Geelong loses all guidance with Nalder “out indefinitely for a stomach issue” and captain Mel Staunton listed as "away for three weeks”.

EFC and VLFW debutant:

  • Taya Chambers (has played at State level before, in WA)
  • Sophie Strong

EFC debutant:

  • Grace Belloni
  • Abbey McDonald :crossed_fingers:

Ignoring round ones, 9 changes is the greatest ever for the VFLW team (there have been 8 changes four times).
