The most pleasing thing about the first two games - and this 2022 squad, is I’m seeing spread of skill and responsibility. We don’t rely on 2-3 players to do all the work. Super exciting start.
Hey @PH_WARFRadio you do such great work! Just watching yesterdays replay. VFLW is lucky to have you and the WARF team
Amazing how one extra key-ish forward makes a difference… well, that and the supply from Zanchetta/Ford/Radford, replacing Barba.
So far, Gardner is the only regular out (Caruso has been intermittently in-and-out for two years).
It’s gonna be fun squeezing in Davies Dicker Gardner [2 more ex-AFLW players] [NAB Leaguers] [anyone cough returning from AFLW duty]… we don’t have a stack of Gabby Golds to chuck out.
(To be fair to Gabby, there are a lot of 2018 players I have zero recollection of. Though maybe it’s not a good thing that she is the scar tissue in my brain )
Hear, hear. Loved the commentary. Puts Channel 7 to shame.
(Also love RadioDJR, but that is assumed).
Interestingly, we only used one more player in 2018 than we did in 2021 (despite having 23 players on game day in 2018, rather than 21). I guess after early turmoil we settled for what we had, even if it was just-one-win-worthy.
lol at nick hind just having a snooze on the ground post game as port come off the ground.
You’re too kind Madam President… But, remember our commentary team motto “The more you drink, the better we sound!”.
I just wish the people of the video recording/streaming side of things would get their act together, so you can watch a full game uninterrupted.
I absolutely do not envy match selection.
That’s my life motto!
Hmmm. 2018 and 2019 were very similar, round 1 aside. Ignoring round 1, an average of 3.1 changes in 2018, 3.2 in 2019, and 2.2 in 2021.
One week in our existence where we had no changes!
I’ll see myself out…
Below is substantially edited from the initial post. Query below still stands.
Can anyone point me to a source of player records for the VWFL (i.e. before 2016)?
The reporting is suggesting CBomb played 21 VFLW games before getting to us. SportsTG has records back to 2016 (i.e. all of the VFLW) and says she played just 2 games in 2018. Obviously she played VWFL from 2007 (with gaps as she went off sliding down ice etc) and I’m surprised if we’re counting pre-2016 that she is still anywhere near as low as 50.
Looking at my pre-EFC records I have no idea where I got half of them (e.g. Clifford I have on 66, which has to include something pre-VFLW – possibly also including VAFA games), or whether others are cut short and already past notable milestones (e.g. Morcom I have on 6 games before joining us, and hence 5 away from 50 games).
Having now checked further with SportsTG, Morcom is listed with 6 games in 2017 and 0 in 2016, so I feel a tad more confident about that!
Ha. Looks like VWFL is there 2008-2016.
No, I haven’t worked out yet if they’re double-reporting 2016 as VWFL and VFLW.
This should keep me busy till the round 3 team comes out
Brendan Rhodes says he used his own records… and maybe don’t trust SportsTG.
Now I look, I see lots of errors on a team basis at SportsTG. Essendon actually looks be the only full set of correct numbers.
Amongst some modest deviations, some of the clubs have seasons basically missing.
Table below is player-games: e.g. in 2018 and 2019 there should be 14 rounds x 23 players = 322 for the H&A season.
EDIT: and the VWFL player records are much worse, just a handful of players listed from a few selected clubs each season.
ANYWAY, here are the official club bests; that mysterious player Rae-Clifford features again.
Best: Nanscawen, Radford, Zanchetta, Rae-Clifford, Ford.
Not nearly as many flashy moments as round 1, but…
REIGNING Lambert-Pearce medallist Georgia Nanscawen has surged into a share of the lead after round two of the VFLW Coaches Player of the Year award after another strong performance on Saturday.
Nanscawen, who polled six votes in Essendon’s shutout of the Western Bulldogs in the opening round, added another eight in a second consecutive best-on-ground performance as the Bombers ran away from Port Melbourne by 63 points.
She joins Grace Buchan on top of the leaderboard on 14 votes after the Southern Saint picked up four votes in her team’s upset loss to Carlton and three votes clear of Hawthorn’s Tegan Cunningham, who added one to her perfect 10 in the opening round.
…
Once again, Georgia is the only player the coaches can agree on.
Essendon v Port Melbourne
8 Georgia Nanscawen (Ess) = 5 + 3
5 Jordan Zanchetta (Ess) = 5 + 0
4 Mia-Rae Clifford (Ess) = 4 + 0
4 Cecilia McIntosh (Ess) = 4 + 0
3 Amelia Radford (Ess) = 3 + 0
2 Nicole Julian (Ess) = 2 + 0
2 Renee Tierney (Ess) = 2 + 0
1 Sarah Ford (Ess) = 1 + 0
1 Sophie Molan (PM) = 1 + 0
