VFLW - Round 4 v Southern Saints @ Trevor Barker Beach Oval, Sandringham, 11.30am Sunday 27 May 2018

This Sunday morning at 11.30am the Bombers take on the Southern Saints at the Sandringham VFL ground.

The ‘Southern Saints’ are St Kilda AFL - not to be confused with old VWFL club St Kilda Sharks who left the league at the end of last year - playing games out of Frankston and Sandringham until Moorabbin’s reno is completed.

Game will have both a radio and video stream - For DJR, I’ll have the little 89.1 FM transmitter set-up, so you can hear the game delay free at the ground.

Radio ‘RSN Carnival’ digital radio, RSN Racing & Sport app and rsn.net.au/digital-radio (from 11am).

Video Stream VFL.com.au and the VFL app (from 11.25am)

Ladder Positions:
6th - Southern Saints - 2 wins, 1 loss
12th - Essendon - 0 wins 3 losses

Stolen from vfl.com.au:

The Saints (6th) made it two wins in a row after beating the Casey Demons last week to take their record to 2-1. The Bombers (12th) remain winless after three rounds and suffered their biggest loss against NT Thunder last round.

Can Essendon string four quarters together? The Bombers came out of nowhere to challenge the Thunder early in their Round 3 clash in Darwin, kicking four straight goals to lead by two points at quarter time but failing to score again as NT piled on the goals. It was Essendon’s best quarter of the season so far and the team should build on that effort to grab its first win of the season.

Southern’s Ali Drennan has arguably been her team’s best player this season, standing out in both victories, including a performance of 22 disposals, 12 tackles and an important clutch goal in last week’s win against Casey. Bombers midfielders will need to be wary with Drennan teaming up with in-form ruck Rhiannon Watts, as Watts serves the ball to her teammate on a silver platter.

Looking forward to this amazing woman taking the field.
Amazing to watch the last few weeks.

I heard a vague report from the season launch (IIRC) that Michaela Long said she was injured and not playing earlier in the season.

Are there any reports on her fitness?

She last seems to have played in the NTFL for St Mary’s on March 3rd (probably end of the season), not sure if she has played for Diamond Creek.

She didn’t make it into the top vote getters in the NTFL B &F, not in St Mary’s top 3.

Michaela Long hasn’t played a game for Diamond Creek this year (according to the NFNL website).

Stephanie Hird played one game in mid-April with the Old Geelong firsts (VAFA Premier B Blue), and has played the last two weeks in the Old Geelong seconds, named in the best half-dozen in both games.

Incidentally, what I’ve seen of VFLW this year is a lot better than AFLW. More like football, less like rugby.

Um… vfl.com.au video is (last week’s?) Darebin vs St Kilda instead?

The real video and audio are available via the app. Video is currently mute, though.

Ponter is playing for her club in the NT this weekend, for those interested.

Mackrill still needs to work on her tank - hope she comes back in soon.

Mackrill wasn’t on the VFLW releases list — so not playing anywhere?

VFL site doesn’t have a correct link to the game currently.

Via the app I deduce the links you want are:

Blow the siren, end the game, doo dah, doo dah.

Great tackling by us so far, though it again seems the umpires are more AFL-ish than VFL-ish…

Moreau snap point, we lead 7-0

Our backline is dominating but that hasn’t resulted in many scoring chances for us yet.

Lucky bounce for them cuts the lead to 7-1.

RED TIME rebound from a few metres out and we lead 7-1 at quarter time.

We dominated possession but they had more Inside Fifties, which makes you nervous when you only have a one-straight-shot lead…

Looks at the BOM, realises there is a 25kph wind from the north. Uh-oh.

7-9 two minutes into the second quarter.

Ooooooooooh ■■■■.

Rapare [sp?] headbutts our stationary player’s legs, gets a free and goal from it. Very non-AFL decision.
