VFLW - Round 6 vs Cats @ Deakin Uni, 1pm Sat 24 May 2025

THIS IS OUR 100th GAME.

I will have attended 88 of the 100: 7 of the 12 were too far away, 2 were COVID-affected, and 3 no decent excuse (e.g. going to the VFLM instead). The 100 doesn’t include the mid-season invitational game versus GWS, or the game versus the NTFLW.

This week should start properly sorting out the ladder, one week before the half-way mark, due to:

  • Hawks vs Dogs
  • Pies vs Norf
  • Sandy vs Port

The week after:

  • EFC vs Hawks
  • Pies vs Sandy
  • Willy vs Footscray (because someone has to fill fifth and sixth)
  • Port vs Werribee

Brendan Rhodes paraphrased me:

Bonus snippet from his Spreadsheet-of-Everything:

  • Windy Hill record is 16-12
  • Hangar record is 11-7-3
  • Elsewhere we are 24-25-1

(At least I think, away from my Spreadsheet-of-Everything-EFC, that’s what he is saying: gets messy once you start talking about finals.)

Note a handful of Hangar games were “away”, when other clubs failed to supply a ground.

Oakleigh Chargers’ Chloe Bown and Calder Cannons’ Chloe Baker-West – who both donned the ‘Big V’ as bottom-agers last season – are not playing.

So she’s got nothing to do this weekend?

BRING. HER. IN.

(Chloe Brown is second on average disposals this year at 29.8. Guess which other Chloe is first!)

Staunton middle, Poppy FF?

Sure, whatever.

Geelong’s VFLW team have made three changes ahead of Saturday’s clash with Essendon.

A trio of Cats will pull on the Hoops for the first time this year with Olivia Woods, Kate Martin and Gabby Dellar all added to the starting line-up for their 2025 debuts.

Zoe Larkins will miss this week through injury, while Madi Sexton and Janessa Fitzgerald both make way for the Round 6 clash.

Geelong’s VFLW team will be looking to secure their first win of the 2025 season on Saturday, when they take on Essendon at Deakin University.

Rest of the teams are coming (Dogs have pulled their AFLW players so should get smacked by the Hawks).

Harsh call to omit Mifsud.

Plummer FB? Melnikas CHB? Chaston forward pocket and Bernardi on the ball? Pls.

At least Abbey has moved one line closer to the midfield this week

Ellie Huggard Eva Downie
Isabelle Porter Grace Azzopardi
Jaimee-Lee Morrow Layla Prince

Cats have 17 changes. Their sole returning players are Favell, Pratt, Schaap, and Mahar.

Pre-season match down there saw us win 5.13.43 to 3.2.20

Cats tried hard but were… not good.

@hambo will get to this game, though.

Yep it’s in the calendar. Do they have HOT CHIPS?

They’ve got ■■■■■■■ nothing there.

EDIT: I lied. This was present last time!

Not flattering is Darebin up 30-7 over Casey at HT.

DEMATTEEEEOOOO has two goals and NatMac one.

Wind is mostly across the ground, away from the camera, but may at times favour left of screen.

Chaston with the defenders.

Bernardi and Thompson with the forwards.
