VFLW - Round 6 vs Pies @ Victoria Park - 11am Sat 27 April 2024

Teams we have both played are Darebin (same result) and the Saints (we won, they didn’t).

Yay finally an Essendon VFLW match I can get to! Will hopefully be a good one.

Was at Vic Park a few weeks ago for Pies v FCFC. Here are my notes:

  • The players I’d be watching most are: Remmos, Day, Pearce and DeGiacomi.
  • Ingram is another good one and averages 15+ disposals a game.
  • Haven’t seen too much of the other girl listed on the stats, Nikki Watts. She had a quiet one when I was watching them.
  • Pies’ Frances Walsh is starting to become a big impact player.
  • Not much needed to be said about Meg Ryan, we know her already
  • Hannah Fosbrooke has a whole fan club!

Remmos has already stitched us up once this year…

Maybe Laura Gardner has only played one game?!!!:flushed:

Has played 3 games for 123 disposals. Second-place on total disposals is Darebin’s Gogos (5 x 21.6 = 108).

Mass changes!

MORCS set to continue her unbroken streak of playing in every season of our VFLW team  … and continue as a mid in back-to-back games!

The inclusion of Robinson and Gamble means we can name Molan and Gough forward despite Hunt being “unavailable”. Porter and Bateman are on the bench while Chaston is the sole “small” defender – it’s fair to expect Chaston will escape the backline at some point.

Radford was BOG vs the Pies last time (and that was up against Jess Bates).

In the not-too-distant future we will need to play at least one of our many VFLW-listed rucks…

B M. Robinson (80) M. Ford (42)

Pies have only published their VFL team so far (and we have only published our VFLW team), but they do state:

The team are in the midst of a two-game winning streak following a tough start to the year and will field a side that includes nine AFLW players.

They will observe a pre-match ANZAC ceremony that will begin at 10:47am, before the VFL match does the same.

We have named 6 AFLW-listed players, the highest number for us this year so far.

Sydney are playing ONLY AFLW-listed players this round with the ever-so-minor return of their All-Australian ruck in Ally Morphett … but it’s against the top-of-the-ladder Hawks, so GO BINNIES.

Win and we are almost certainly in third place (Port to lose to GWS, but Willy to beat Darebin).

We lose; well, there are SEVEN teams half-a-win behind us right now AND we play GWS away next week!

So let’s win.

Collingwood and Essendon will be almost unrecognisable from last week, making 15 changes between them for their clash at Victoria Park on Saturday.

The Magpies have added five AFLW players – Lucy Cronin, Charlotte Taylorand club debutants Nell Morris-Dalton, Sarah Sansonetti and Tarni White, plus Lambert-Pearce medallist Akayla Peterson back from injury, while Eleri Morris and Amber Schutte were concussed last week and Lauren Brazzaleand Meg Ryan are unavailable.

  • Sarah Sansonetti, 22, 172cm, Collingwood AFLW
  • Tarni White, 23, 170cm, St Kilda/Coorparoo

The VFL article also identifies Hart-Aluni’s injury as “knee”, so not related to the war bandage on the head last week. Must have been a very late, or training, injury.

  • El Chaston – 25 VFLW games (19 with us)
  • Emily Tassiopoulos – VFLW debut
  • Ellie Huggard – EFC debut

Tassiopoulos did get a run in our pre-season: recently 19yo 172cm medium forward who plays tall (was mostly a defender for Oakleigh Chargers last year). Applies decent pressure. She’ll be the one with the headband!

Huggard has been running laps for months. Finally fixed, more background below.

Ha, she was the non-obvious reason I started that post… and obviously I got distracted. I hope she’s got her big girl rucking pants on.

And yes, the first letters of sFord and MFord indicate their relative sizes.
