Someone is enjoying writing the weekly headlines. Also, putting Ugle and Barba in a photo with a bright object in the sky is soooooooooo them.

The juggernaut continues to roll on for Essendon’s VFLW side, which still remains unbeaten after nine rounds following a 73-point drubbing of Collingwood at the NEC Hangar on Saturday.

The Bombers were tested in the first half and trailed the visitors at stages, but piled on nine goals to one in the second half to power to a 14.10 (94) to 3.3 (21) victory.

Federica Frew did the most damage on the scoreboard with a game-high four majors, while Renee Tierney was an attacking force with three goals from her 18 touches.

Mia-Rae Clifford , Grace Dicker and Cecilia McIntosh (all two apiece) were Essendon’s other multiple goalkickers.

The Bombers’ domination of possession only strengthened as the match wore on, more than doubling the Magpies for disposals (285-137) and inside 50s (45-17).

They had 11 of the 12 highest possession-getters on the ground, with co-captain Georgia Nanscawen racking up game-highs in disposals (26), tackles (10) and clearances (eight).

Rookie relevation Amelia Radford , who entered the round in second position in the VFLW Coaches Player of the Year, was another consistent performer with 19 disposals, five marks and four clearances.

The Bombers were bolstered by the return of Alana Barba , following the young midfielder’s AFLW stint with the Gold Coast Suns after her third-placed finish in Essendon’s best and fairest last season.

The win sees the Bombers stay in second position behind Casey with the highest percentage (428.83) and points scored (699) ahead of the final four rounds.

ESSENDON 2.0 5.2 8.8 14.10 (94)
COLLINGWOOD 1.2 2.2 2.2 3.3 (21)

Goals: Frew 4, Tierney 3, Rae-Clifford 2, Dicker 2, McIntosh 2, Elarmaly

Disposals: Nanscawen 26, Zanchetta 20, Radford 19, Doonan 18, Tierney 18, Ugle 18

“Stages “??? I would argue that should be singular.

Unbeaten didn’t we lose a game?

Drawing isn’t losing

First stage was trailing by 1, second stage by 7, third stage by 8, fourth stage by 2.

Fifth stage: we blew them away.

Might inspire the women teams, too.

On the general concept of stages:

  • we’ve lost 3 of 36 quarters this year (with 1 more drawn). One of those was against a 40kph wind.
  • we have held the opposition scoreless in 13 of the 36 quarters. Geelong was the only team to avoid that, but 2/7/1/1 ain’t much to brag about.
  • in the last quarter yesterday we scored 38 points, our most for the year so far. In the first nine rounds 38 is the combined (!!!) score against us in all but Q4. Imogen Milford is the reason we didn’t keep Q4 to less than 38.

Forgot to mention the most important comment re: the three horse race for the premiership.

We played the Hawks and Casey in our two pre-season practice games! We beat the Hawks comfortably (don’t know the score) by zipping around their bulk, and murdered Casey 65-3.

Hopefully they were true indications!

G.L.O.R.I.A. (if you’re not singing this every time I type this, I am very disappointed in you).

Only just read that Georgia Nanscawen is the youngest woman ever to play 100 matches for Australia in hockey. What a sporting career she is forming

She may not be the loud demonstrative type (conveniently, Ugle and Clifford as vice/co-captains) but to watch her train and play is enough to inspire.

Haha I’m not sure!

Are the comments on that photo all wholesome?
