Some random off-season musing…

  • Based on 2018-2025
  • Must not primarily be an AFLW-listed player or too much of a cameo* (but you’ll see some pretty big names in the emergencies)
  • Form at other clubs over this timeframe is considered – the most obvious example of that is the inclusion of Lauren Caruso.
  • Team is actually a team, not just a best 23 (23 being the number of players each week until 2019)
  • 2018-2019 is perhaps harshly treated, possibly because I was not present at 9 such games versus 3 over 2021-2025.



*Most arguable might be Prespakis (5 games) versus Porter (6 games) – but The Georgie and Georgia Show across our first three finals was legit significant

Unlucky:

  • Kendra Heil with 70 games (2 behind record-holder Ugle) – sorry, Plummer is just as snarly, more physical, and a bigger kick. Note that Kenny played as a key-ish defender in the early years.
  • Hayley Bullas – her tackle and contested possession counts were epic, but in the end I’ve tacked on Dicker as the final player (and fastest player in the squad)
  • Davidge 45 games, Nat Macdonald 43 – but getting into that our forward line was pretty bloody hard. You’ll note there are no legit talls forward, but 2022 illustrated that the right midfield makes a fleet of quality forwards impossible to stop. We really haven’t had many big-bodied tall forwards anyway (Richardson might be the closest to that description).

P.S. The day I posted this Ally Anderson played her 100th AFLW game, the equal-most in the league.

She played 4 games for us in 2019, immediately after winning her first All-Australian and Bears B&F.
