I used to have to add plenty, but haven’t done any more than edit existing entries of late. Even then, I think there was already a master release usually, which made it easier to copy the info across.
I’d go into any compilation and click edit to see all the form sections and how it’s done, then from a new browser window, click the Discogs menu to enter a new submission, checking how people have entered info on the other example. You have to be careful with band names if there’s more than one band with the same name.
Got my RSD delivery of two records. Skipped the Public Image cos the reviews were lukewarm, but rapt I picked up the ones I did, as the online store ran out in minutes.
BBC News - Collector’s 30,000 vinyl records up for auction
Might just take a sneaky look as there’s got to be some gems in amongst them… But tbh, I think if I’d won the lottery recently I’d likely just buy the lot
Showing your age there, 2D
I remember them fondly too, but sadly they’ve both been gone for many years.
I don’t know what’s in the CBD these days (Missing Link, Gaslight, Collectors Corner, Central Station and all the other good ones are long since gone).
There’s Rocksteady Records on Lonsdale St.
There’s still Heartland Records which has relocated from opposite the Vic Market to North Melbourne (probably accessible by tram) - a fellow Blitzer works there I think (apologies to whoever you are… your handle has escaped me right now)
There’s also a few on Johnston St & Smith St around the Fitzroy/Collingwood/Abbotsford area.
And, of course, there’s still Greville Records in Prahran.
Beyond that, I’m not sure.
Many thanks mate. I will see how I go. I used to be able spend entire weekends going from Frankston to Dandenong to Blackburn and then in through Prahran/St. Kilda to the CBD. Those were the days. If I did that now I’m sure the Drug Squad would suspect me of doing drug runs.
Btw, I was in Wonthaggi and then Castlemaine a while ago and found a couple of decent vinyl stalls in their community markets. Seems to be the model these days.
Dixons in Dandy and Blackburn, right? There’s still a Dixons in Blackburn (a bit further up toward Maroondah Hwy than it used to be), but the Camberwell and Dandy shops are gone.
As with you, once I got my first part-time job I’d spend many weekends heading into town cruising the record shops. All the CBD ones, and we’d also spend some time thumbing through the imported music magazines in Minotaur Books. If we got really adventurous we’d also venture to Greville Records and to Leedin Records in Footscray.
