Probably doesnāt believe you when youāve come from other record fairs and told her you only spent āabout $50ā whilst brandishing a first edition Sgt Peppers and two Elvis 7ā on the original Sun labelā¦
Many years ago we moved house and while packing I discovered her handbag stash under the spare bedroom bed, so I have a free pass on luxury purchases for life.
Damn all these appropriately priced records.
Donāt they know Iām a tight-ass?
Walking along High Street last Sat around Northcote, went by 3 boutique record stores within 800m of each other, then another 1-2 Kms closer to town.
Seems to fit the feel of the area.
Wonder what decade Wim grew up in ?
Reckon I was holding that exact copy of Dekadance and debating whether or not to buy it.
Iām glad you didnāt!
Iām going to play the hell out of it.
I donāt normally go forā¦things that arenāt original releases, but I couldnāt pass that one up.
Especially when Iāve got things like the 12ā of Burn For You on my want list. Donāt need it now.

Doesnāt have the pointless āwalking to your flight in Japanā prelude on Jackson.
Booooooooo.
And also why???
Why would you reproduce thatā¦experienceā¦and then notā¦
Itās not like thereās notā¦room on the recordā¦
So irrationally mad.
Says itās Dekadance.
Is Not Dekadance.
For what?
You did this for what?
Iām really struck by how some 7ās seem to be cut louder than others.
Iāve got an A Flock Of Seagulls āThe More You Live The More You Loveā 7ā that goes louder and deeper than just about any 12ā I own. Cut to perfection, no idea how they did it.
My wife complained about the odd music coming from the other room. āCanāt stop it!ā I called out.
Mrs Dogga recently became aware I was having issues with my Pro Ject Xperience SB. She knew this because I was starting to whinge about it constantly. The spindle was becoming extremely noisy. It was needing to be oiled every week at least. The noise would be picked up via the cart, resulting in low crunchy rumble, totally ruining my much cherished listening experience. I could also never ever get the hum outta this thing. Like ever. It was a noisy beast and to be frank, I was growing to really dislike it.
Now Mrs Dogga (Aka Superstar) also knew I had developed over the years a powerful lust for a Thorens TD1500. Iād show her pictures of it, as any annoying nerd husband would and sheād nod supportingly (probably thinking ādoes this clown ever shut upā), but with an Australian rrp $3800 it was never ever going to be in the realm of possibilities.
So a while back whilst scanning the prices of said Thorens, my heart skipped a beatā¦it was on speacial. Quite a good special. Like 1000 bucks off special! Yes, 2800 is still massively expensive and if I was given the thumbs up, it would be the most expensive piece of gear I ownā¦
I showed Mrs Doggaā¦Thumbs Up!!!
I was in shock, however weād come into a bit of dough recently via a sad, long and horrible turn of events thatās not suited for this thread. Most (as in literally all) of which is most definitely mortgage boundā¦but thatās a whole and other story.
So here it is. Iāve had it a while now. To be honest, I had no major sonic upgrade expectations from the pro ject. I thought, as long as the spindle rumble was gone Iād be happy.
But fark meā¦
The sonic step up is incredible. It came with an Ortofon Bronze, a cart I am very familiar with and have ran regularly on my both of my old pro jects. The Bronze never sounded this good on any pro ject Iāve owned.
(WANKIE HIFI TERMS INCOMING) The depth of bass the turntable achieves is incredible. Never bloated - just thick and warm. The articulation in the high end is crystal clear and never shrill. I can only describe the overall sonics of this thing as āAnalogieā. Its just engulfs you like big warm sound hug. And as for the hum⦠oh man. When I first plugged this fucken thing in, I assumed I had buggered the set up somehowā¦IT IS DEAD SILENT!!! ZERO HUM. Its unbelievable.
Aesthetics wise, well I feel itās one of the most beautiful turntables Iāve ever seen. Iāve always gravitated towards hifi equipment with a bit of a 70s style, as to me that is the golden age of hifi from a design perspective. And this thing nails it. Its just lovely to look at. Droooolā¦
Suffice to say, Iām totally and utterly in love with it. I want to grow old with it and can honesty say, with great joy and total satisfaction, my set up is completeā¦well except for the odd new cart from time to time (speaking of which, these screw on headshell things are incredible. The ease of use/installation is fantastic).
Itās Dark Ale and Hendrix time in The Shed right now. And itās never sounded better.
Thanks for listening blitzers.
