It was so weird and fast. A week before it came out I had actually looked the comp up on Discogs, wondering if it’d ever found its way to vinyl. Nothing.
A few days later I’m scrolling Facebook and I see it on, I think, the Amoeba Records page. I go straight to Disk Union’s website and there it is! Not cheap, but it was a no-brainer for me.
Good timing ha! It might also coincide with chapter slowing/closing operations and that CD was a big one in their catalog i think. Our copies were over $50 wholesale so wasn’t cheap here either…
I should add, there is the standard model that doesn’t allow BT (Bluetooth) capabilities. I chose the BT model because sometimes I want it to come out of my Bluetooth headphones instead of through the speaker system (which lacks BT to my headphones).
I have the Pro-Ject Phono Box S2, which has been great running my AT LP120 into an old Yamaha receiver.
<$300, similar price to the E BT5 but (I think) higher spec without the bluetooth
Went to a whiskey and vinyl pairing night on Thursday last week and walked out wondering if I should start to collect some vinyl from bands/albums that have made me, me.
But I don’t own a record player of any type. Are there any tips that the hivemind here would care to offer re: equipment or looking for vinyl?
Tried different inputs on the receiver even changed RCA plugs, triple checked connections, and made sure the switch is RCA on the preamp and no sound.
The RCA output on the preamp was working on the MAC with USB input so only thing I can think is the RCA input is failing unless I am missing blindly obvious ??!
Edit: Ok tried with Laptop hooked up from a 3.5mm to RCA to the preamp RCA and working, went back to the phono and had to turn it up to nearly MAX to get some sound, like having the volume on the lowest setting could it be the cartridge on the REGA ?
Do you already have an amp and speakers that you’re happy with, or are you starting from scratch?
If the former, quality of the amp and speakers should guide how much you invest in a turntable (and pre-amp if needed). No point running a good turntable into cheap amp/speakers etc.
If the latter, you could find a package that suits your budget, probably starting around $1500 min (EOFY sales on now).
Edit: Or you could just ask Dogga for a loan of his Thorens for a few weeks to see if you like it - I’m sure he won’t mind
