Vinyl LP's & 45's

I remember the speed being available on some old players, but I don’t think I ever saw a 16 rpm record. Wikipedia says they were mainly for spoken word and car players.

Glorybound is a really nice track.
Very Van Morrison in the best of ways.

@mrjez
What do you make of the new artwork they’ll be using for the upcoming 30th anni edition of Blur’s The Great Escape?

Absolutely fkn hideous for mine… assume the label doesn’t have the license for the original artwork and can’t be arsed getting it.

Horrible artwork, and all the bonus tracks were previously released on the Blur 21 box set 2CD edition of the album (and I don’t think any of them are particularly essential). Hard pass for me. Reeks of a lazy record label cash-grab…

Yeah that’s not good

Wikipedia refers to this being considered the worst album art of all time. Yet it is sympathetic to Blur’s glossy birthday card aesthetic of the golden ModernLife/ParkLife/GreatEscape era. On top of that is layered a compilation of track references. The cover goes alright. From left to right my guesses are:

-Dan Abnormal, off to his local burger bar for a “McNormal and Chips” (with a nod to the Sunday Sunday cover)

-It Could Be You/Mr Robinson’s Quango “We’ll be there Trafalgar Square”/”I’ve got stockings and suspenders and I’m feeling rather good”

-He Thought Of Cars

-are the grinner’s laughing lips a Charmless Man?

-The Universal

-the diver’s legs from the original cover

-Fade Away “They settled in a brand new town With people from the same background”

-He Thought of Cars “They’ve come to save us- the Space Invaders” (also “Teleport Me” in Dan Abnormal)

By this stage Albarn’s themes of banal suburbia were wearing a little thin- in this cover the bourgeois side profile appears “so keen for you to listen” as the universal profile looks coldly ahead.
There is very little allowance in the Great Escape that people might actually enjoy their lives, or have a sense of purpose beyond being entertained. What had started in Modern Life is Rubbish as a mockney antitdote to grunge nihilism was becoming a Nirvana with less feedback and better rhymes. So finally on the right hand side of the cover we bring down the curtain on the whole Life trilogy.

Are those speakers made for ants?

It’s not about the size of the boat something something

I have a Hasil Adkins record called Wild Man. I won’t post the cover here, not because it’s overly graphic, but because I can’t confirm what’s actually occurring in the image. All I will say is, the look in Hasil’s eyes tells a lot.

They should be at least three times bigger

They are.
They’re terrible.
I just can’t justify buying expensive speakers, or a seperate pre-amp or whatever, I dunno.
Because I don’t know what I’m doing and my relationship with money is very odd indeed.

They are a recent upgrade from a single Bluetooth speaker, so….
