Vinyl LP's & 45's

If the Ronnie Spector track is a cover of Say Goodbye to Hollywood then Discogs says $7.

Deflation sucks, but then so does that single.
What’s David Ackles’ self titled debut, Subway to the Country and American Gothic going for? And I wouldn’t sell any of them either.

I would pay money for admission to hang out in that room.

I’d love to as well, but I know for a fact I’m not cool enough :frowning:

Edit…
I know the price of admission.

The Nagaoka mp-200 Cartridge ought to do it :+1:

I watched a doco on go betweens the other night. Really good worth watching in abc. Must admit they didn’t really fly into my airspace back in the day, aside from their most well known songs. Motivated me to seek a copy of 16 lovers lane. Very hard to find, but I found one and paid pretty hefty price. I hope I like it. Iol

I just love ā€˜Streets of your Town’, so I should probably explore their other stuff.

Cool, I’ll try to check that doco out. I scored a copy of 16 Lovers Lane here in Japan a few years back for around $25, I was rapt.

Yeah the speakers pack quite a punch. Theyre an Australian made speaker called Ascension Speakers. A two man operation in Adelaide. Theyre Summoner model.

I only have a handful of double copies of albums. I buy them to listen to, not seal up and store away. It would be in the low single digits. But I do have about 5 or 6 copies of Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix, as its my favourite album. I have different pressings and coloured editions ect. Such a mind blowing album.

I dont know exactly how many I have but I think its around 1200 to 1300. Id really like to catalogue them on discogs. But its a long and cumbersome task. I try and buy at least a couple each fortnight. So its been growing along for a few years.

When I die I actually do not care what happens to them. My wife and daughters can do what they like with em. Itd be nice to keep them together. I guess I just hope where ever they end up they are played and enjoyed. If Im lucid during my end days Id happily give them away to anyone I thought would love them as much as I do.

It was a very good doco indeed and I say that as a fan of the Go-Betweens going back to their early work (think ā€œCattle And Caneā€ era).

ā€œ16 Lover’s Laneā€ is invariably cited as their best, but it comes in at around number five or six for me. Better albums IMO include ā€œLiberty Belle & The Black Diamond Expressā€, ā€œTallulahā€ and the three they released after Grant and Robert reformed the band. This includes what I regard as their very best album, ā€œOceans Apartā€ which was the last they ever put out.

I also collected all of Grant’s solo albums and they are magnificent and far superior to anything that Robert has put out.

Dogga mentioned his Australian made speakers, which reminds me of another Aust. made speaker company which I had experience with 20 years ago.

It was late 2001, and the wife and I went to a speaker manufacturer’s Showroom in Scoresby to trial their range.
Armed with a pile of CD’s, we were greeted by an affable middle aged, quietly spoken guy who ferried us into a quite impressive listening room.

He was chilled as, and was seemingly enjoying my collection of music as we A B tested between their (at the time) Classic & Performance range.

After more than an hour, I casually started flicking thru their brochure whilst chatting with Colin, and realised he was the Designer and Owner of the company.
Exceptional service.

I still have those speakers today. (Performance Range)
They bring me as much joy now as they did day 1.
Am very proud to say that despite moving 7 times over 2 decades, there still isn’t a scratch on them.
And these Floor Standers aren’t exactly small or light.

Whenever people talk about record values, it always reminds me of this Seinfeld Episode…

Gotta weird issue with my amp. Randonly blowing output fuses. Main speaker woofs feel OK, nothing wierd on the ohm meter. I’ll get it back from repair for a week or 2 or 3. i would play vinyl say twice a week and it randomly blows. I’ve so just realised the belt on the turntable was a bit loose I noticed that first play of the record was slow but went normal very quickly so Im getting that sorted and cant see that being the issue anyway.
Any other funky tests that I don’t know about?

I was at the local tip/resource centre, and spotted some milk crates full of vinyl.( I actually wanted the milk crates. )

The guy at the shop sold them to me for $5 each (for 6) as long as I took as much vinyl as I could carry in them!

So I grabbed as much as I could and found a shopping trolley and wheeled it out to my car. Just then a car pulls up with a bunch of hipsters piling out. They see me rolling out with all this vinyl as if I’ve hit pay dirt. I played it real sus too, just to get their wheels spinning.

Anyway, still got the milk crates, and a few of the albums that were interesting. But FMD so many copies of Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Tijuana Brass.

If you like the eipcs, would Death of a Disco Dancer, That Joke Isn’t Funny Anymore and The Queen is Dead (track not album) get a run at Chez Wim?

They’re all good.
There is a Light, Rush and a Push…
I like quite a lot of their songs, I guess.
It’s just that I equally dislike songs like Ask, This Charming Man, Heaven Knows, Hand in Glove…

I really can’t explain it.

Edit: The Queen is Dead makes me laugh every time.

Edit: edit: If that Simpsons song had Morrissey singing instead of Cumberbatch and Lisa, and they said it was a lost Smiths track I Absolutely would have believed it.

Is there a particular siz of milk crate that is better, or are they all the same? I have a couple of old genuine dairy crates and I reckon the records a a bit tight. Sort of scrape a bit. not good for the covers maybe
