This is my current set-up…

Does the job…

Saw a huge pile of NMEs down the road free to a good home. They just sat there mouldering, but I should add they were the glossy magazine version, long past the inky glory days.

I didn’t even know NME went down the magazine route too. My collection of Jukes included the issues from their ill-fated (and short-lived) venture into glossy magazine format, only available from Brashs…

Mine are mid 77 up until 82 when it was coming out weekly and not that many missing. Mostly in pretty good condition but you do look like you’ve just been fingerprinted when you finish browsing.

Had a hell of a lot of Q but they’re heavier than bricks and just went nuh.

I’m still hanging onto a hundred or so Mojo magazines from 1998 to 2008. They were a high quality publication but I dropped off when every second or third issue seemed to be all about The Beatles. Some of the CDs that came with them were pretty good.

The NMEs bit the dust many moons ago.

I collect mostly 45s…which are actually tricky to store as they are more fragile than LPs with hard cardboard covers.
I was complaining to my Dad about this one afternoon and be went and built this lovely thing.
Similar dimensions to a large Billy but with inserts to reduce leaning weight.
Works a treat

Your dad is awesome.

Also, my copy of Lindsay Buckingham’s Trouble just flaked away like it was…one of those honeycomb things on Squid Game.
That gave me a sad face.
I swear they upped their game on materials in the mid-eighties.

Sounds like a mega listening binge is in order, and go Marie Kondo on that collection. Even burn all the cds with little value to a hard drive, and turn them into some cash at a place that’ll take them.

Anyone here a fan of Aussie hip hop and heard of ChillinIT?

Been listening to it since the 90’s. Do know ChillinIT, can’t say I’m a fan really. Sorta Grime thing, doesn’t really interest me but for mine it’s better than the 360/Kerser era.

He’s the type who gets a lot of hype and detractors in equal measure.

Had a fun day today. Started at a garage sale this morning. Picked up 3 x Suzi Quatro (Can the Can, Your Mama Won’t Like Me and Quatro), Cat Stevens - Mona Bone Jakon, Billy Joel - The Stranger and Albert Hammond - It Never Rains In Southern California all for $30. Cover on the SQ are all knackered (water damage, stuck together) but the vinyl is all VG minimum. Funny thing about it is that I went to the garage sale yesterday morning, because I was reading the ad at about 1a.m. and didn’t realise it was a new day. Was looking at the date on the computer thinking “That’s in the morning. Strange to be having a garage sale on a Friday”. Got down there and realised the error of my thought processes when nothing was happening. Cue self conscious embarrassment and good natured ribbing when I informed my loving wife and son what I had done.

Moving on and putting that behind me. I love it when sellers aren’t out to screw you over. This afternoon picked up a copy of RHCP - Californication. Asked the bloke how much he wanted and he tells me $50. I just respond and say bit more than I was hoping to pay, was really only wanting to pay $30 and he comes straight back to me telling me he is selling a bunch or records so happy to do it for $30. As you can imagine I was at his place like a rat up a drain pipe. Wasn’t a top dollar version but that wasn’t an issue for me anyway. Vinyls are both really clean VG+ heading toward near mint. Very happy and stays with my rule of not wanting to pay more than $15 per disc i.e. double - 30, triple 45 etc. if possible. Good day.

To cap off a good day, just picked up a 3rd pressing 12" copy of New Order - Blue Monday… $10.

What a day.

So, spent all day making my version of this. Still need to paint and add finishing touches, but am pleased with the results. Once done I will post a pic or two. For those interested I used pocket hole joinery (lazy man’s joinery) and 12 mm non structural ply (nothing fancy). For the front of the box I have used some poplar I had laying around since Masters went bust, and used some more poplar for the legs. Given I had the poplar, total cost so far is $48 for the one sheet of ply and some pocket hole screws. If I had gone for a 4 box design instead of the 6 box design I have used and purchased pine for the legs, it may have cost about $75. As I said previously though, helps that I have all the gear I need.

Looks already full. Going to have to make another one real soon.

So as promised, here are some photos of the completed project. Waiting for the wonderful aroma of fresh paint to fade before bringing it into the house and placing records in it.

All up dollars spent based on me having timber for legs and front already and a clear coat poly for said timber was $39 for plywood, $9 for pocket hole screws, $20 for black paint, $12 for undercoat and $10 for non slip matting in each compartment. Grand total of $90.

Can’t wait to see it with records in it, in the place where it’s going to be.

Weird sign of the times - at first glance I thought the bass player on the bottom right had a mask on, and I’m thinking, hang on…

Yeah, I’ve got a lot of those Beatles issues. They did do a heap of them. Probably a unit shifter to have the Beatles on the cover during that period when print technology was starting to being overtaken - obviously not for you - and it certainly seemed a bit much, even for a Beatles nut like me. Maybe they just got lazy. Especially for the price, you could almost buy one of the good Beatles bio’s for the price of Mojo at that stage.

lol.
I had the very weird and strong desire to read a mid eighties copy of Smash Hits overnight.

The running gags and the language really gave it a sense of community. Quite a lot of which was instigated by Neil Tennant, which is even weirderer.
