Vinyl LP's & 45's

I’m still hanging on to a stack of Hot Metal magazines from the 90’s - not sure why, they can’t be worth much. Pure nostalgia I suppose. We had to get the local newsagent to order in a few copies especially for us.

I had a few Smash hits too. One with Sinead OConnor on the front IIRC.

Going through the process of getting favourite posters framed. Have still got them in storage.

A little late for me.

Now…if you were talking Circus…

So, in place and very full. Won’t have this many in there later, but this is a bit of a stress test for a couple of days to see if there is any movement. I didn’t use glue on the legs, just screws, but if I see and sort of spread over the next couple of day I will empty it, remove the legs and glue them and screw them. Additionally, won’t be staying there long because the floor is being replaced at the end of the month. Also a bit worried about the possibility of sun damage too the vinyl being so close to a window. Anyone have any thoughts on potential damage due to placement?

All up though, very pleased with my handywork and think it looks the part. Being a tall bugger, I thought it may be a touch too low, but now that it is in place it feels just right. Almost like the bad old days of visiting Brash’s and the original JB Hifi in Centreway and browsing through their shelves.

For info, about 380 records in there.

Just had to go check my collection, as have all the front top row

Yes I would be keeping them away from any chance of direct sunlight

Definitely keep them away from direct sunlight. They’re worth looking after!

Great work on the stand - looks fantastic. Love the classic record store sort order! If I was at your place though, I’d have to turn Framptom 90 degrees anticockwise when you weren’t looking…

I could do that too, but would then have the opening facing up and I’m a bit OCD about that.

That’s amazing.

How’s the stand holding up with the stress test?

Really good, joints haven’t moved at all. All the vinyl is getting packed away in 2 weeks for a bit, need too replace all the flooring in the house. When it all comes back out, stand will have about half of what it does now, will just put my best/favourite albums in it. The rest will go back in a cube storage shelf.

So, had some luck today on facebook for a change. Was having a coffee at work and browsing marketplace when I saw an ad fro an amplifier and a turntable $80 posted 2 minutes earlier. I had a quick look and immediately made an enquiry, very much with intent to buy. Moments later, the ad changed to $80 each. Still happy to buy. The seller agreed, and in the time it took for her to enter that into messenger, she had had another three offers. As usual I started to worry at this stage, because so often I will say, look, can’t get there until tonight can you hold and they go yeah no worries. Nek minnit, so sorry, I sold it. She then sends a message about 20 minutes later saying that the person who bought the amplifier wanted to buy the turntable but she had refused. You can imagine my relief. Anyway’s, long story short, went up and picked up my “new” turntable. I reckon I got a bargain, may just need to spend more than I did on the turntable for a quality cartridge. Here’s the photo’s.

Works well. Pitch control either needs a lube or a full service, works, but not smooth. Kinda expected in a turntable this old. Running a Stanton 500 Cartridge, but no idea about the stylus, could be conical or elliptical, haven’t had it out to look yet. Threw on a record and ******* very nice. Had to adjust the weight on the stylus, way way too high.

There’s a great App called RPM Calculator.
Sit your phone face up near the centre, and it shows if youre running the correct speeds.

Might be worth investing in a cheapie tiny scale, to ensure your tracking force is within limits.

Yeah, got the scale. Set stylus pressure at 2g, recommended is between 0 and 3g.
Pitch control just needs a flush and lube I think. 30+ year of gunk and probably never had an actual service. From what I can tell it is running the D5100EE elliptical stylus.

Anyone have any idea of the value of the full
Beetles collection? (I’m pretty sure it’s the full collection and some are unplayed)

Varies wildly with pressing number, condition etc.

Discogs is a good place to start.

Thank you
I don’t think they have ever been opened, let alone played

Depends on the seller as well. Anywhere from $100 through to $600 if they are mint or near mint. In most cases around the $300-350 mark. Traders will go closest to DISCOGS pricing, private sellers often seriously, seriously over inflate the value, or seriously , seriously underestimate the value. If it is a make an offer type scenario, offer in the $120-$180 range. That values each album at $10 to $15 each, which is reasonable depending on condition. These are not 1st presses or anything like that so don’t have the same value as individual records.
