We play scared football

Teams win football games by taking the game on. Attacking. Moving the ball fast. Getting it forward at all costs.

We don’t play like that. We play safe. Scared of making mistakes. Scared of attacking in case it doesn’t work.

So many times we get the ball in defence, get it to a player who’s clear, and that player stops. Looks sideways. Looks backwards. Looks sideways again. Eventually kicks backwards.

Why?

Because there’s not a rolled gold player up front in the clear. So we don’t take a chance.

You win by attacking, and attacking hard and quickly.

But we don’t do that. We play scared. That’s why our game plan is so ■■■■. That’s why we lose.

Pressure and speed. That’s what we need, and we are not doing it.

I thought we played much better tonight but your post perfectly sums up the last quarter.

So many sideways kicks…so many dinky handballs to other players already under pressure.

Like crabs, looking sideways or backwards. Unprepared to spread fast and hard forward or backwards. Afraid to take any risk. No dare, no courage. Self preservation.

This thread couldn’t have been started under Brad Scott’s rein?

We had a crack today.

We are not bringing in something new like manic forward handball mid season.

You can thank old stale bread for this.

Fark me. Solomon has had this group for just over a week and we’re dissecting the new game plan are we? Mute thread incoming…

Not in the second half.

We are so conditioned to accepting mediocrity. That wasn’t AFL standard and most other clubs would get a roasting. But hey, they tried for a bit, participation awards all round.

Maybe a tad harsh. It looked like the game would blow out but the young guys kept cracking in and we ended up only losing by 5 points. Normally that would blow out.

I think the effort was still there for a lot of them but the poor decisions by the usual suspects made it hard.

In the second half Fraser changed things up. Durham super quiet second half couldn’t deal with tag, and blues got on top.
We moved Reid forward late and almost pinched it.
Blues kicked poor. could have lost by more.

Part of second half fade-out likely due to tired legs from return from WA.

The hubris to think this was above a comment in the actual fkn game review thread.
