Injury replacement player announced by the club tonight.
Essendon are thrilled to welcome Maggie MacLachlan to the NEC Hangar, with the versatile 22-year-old joining the AFLW squad as a replacement player.
Bringing AFLW experience, the 171cm utility joins the Dons after stints at the highest level and two stellar seasons with WAFLW outfit Subiaco.
Initially drafted to Fremantle back in 2021 and featuring twice for the Dockers, MacLachlan would go on to add another seven games to her AFLW career tally in two seasons with Port Adelaide as one of the Club’s inaugural players.
A standout at Subiaco since finishing her tenure with the Power at the end of 2023, MacLachlan can play multiple roles through the midfield and at half back, known for her classy ball use and penetrating kick.
Alongside a strong running ability which sees her cover the ground with bursts of speed, MacLachlan also possesses a high footy IQ which gives her opportunities to break down opposition.
Essendon had a list spot available due to Emily Gough’s ruptured ACL injury and Bess Keaney’s pregnancy announcement.
MacLachlan is primed for the big stage once again, this time with the Bombers.
“We’re really pleased to have Maggie join the Bombers. She’s someone we’ve tracked for numerous seasons. Her skill execution, work rate and character make her a great fit for our program,” AFLW List & Recruiting Manager Josh Moore said.
“Maggie can impact games in multiple positions, and her composure with ball in hand stands out. Her versatility and footy IQ will add great depth to our squad.
“With pre-season officially commencing next week, we’re excited to welcome Maggie into the group and look forward to seeing what she can achieve on and off-field in the red and black.”
AFLW pre-season officially kicks off on Monday, 12 May.
