Welcome to Essendon - John Worsfold

Umm didn’t we do this yesterday??

Too jaded here, so a bit meh with the appointment of our new coach (nothing personal re Worsfold).

Welcome to Essendon John Worsfold.

Hit me/us with your best shot.

When it got to the player questions stage, why didn't any of the senior group ask questions instead of Xavier stepping in??

Definitely two meetings. Watching Jobe’s video he talks about the meeting they had where a lot more stuff was discussed. The one we saw was the stage managed fluff piece.

If I was coach I would say it is my intention to win more games, kick more goals, be stronger in defence and win flags.

Look, it’s a simple ■■■■■■ game. At the end of the day, if we have more points on the board than the opposition when the final siren sounds, we’re going to be a big chance of winning.

Inception conference

Woosha has stated many times that we will be focussing on kicking more goals. Seems as though this is going to be a big difference from previous coaches plans. I think this is a good thing.

that should be the focus tho as backline is pretty good IMO
B Baguley Hurley Gwilt
HB Hibberd Hooker Goddard /Gleeson/Dempsey

If Hooker or Hurley get injured we are in trouble.

Mids have a bit of depth now
Watson
Heppell
Z Merrett
Colyer
Stanton
Hocking
Myers
Howlett
Goddard
Fantasia
Zaharakis
Parish

Forwardline
only certainty is Daniher + possibly forward ruck not a settled forward group
expect Langford and laverde to run through there and midfield as build afl tanks.

HF Zaharakis Laverde Langford
F McKernan/Bell Daniher Dempsey/fantasia

This is the biggest one for me. Everyone talking about mids/rucks in the draft which is fine and all for the first pick or 2 (mids) But we need a ready made KPP from the VFL or similar. Not another 190cm either like Pears,Stein, gwilt. But a proper 196 kpp. Like Mitch Brown. If we are to kick more goals we need more experience up fwd. We struggle to kick goals now because of slow ball movement, I am not talking about leg speed either (although it does’t hurt). Our slow ball movement is mainly due to a lack of confidence in whats ahead of them.

Out fwd line is two inexperienced and small without a big CHF (Hooker) who can always make a contest, and always be confident that the ball will either be marked or brought to ground. Daniher and the younger players are still learning how and where, and when to lead. Modern players will hold possession of the ball rather then bomb it into the fwd line. If they think there is a chance of a intercept mark, or two many op numbers back. They will hold up play and kick short or backwards, because the risk of a rebound goal is to great.

Obviously as soon as this happens the op floods the fwd line and unless you are a great kicking team (like Hawthorn), who only need a few meters space and have kickers good enough to make the kick, you are farked.

Hooksy made a massive difference fwd, as if the ball is in the area at worse it will be brought to ground. Put him back and we have no KPP at CHF who can cut the mustard. Ready made KPB are much easier to find then KPF. Hooker must play forward if we are to become a team that kicks a lot of goals.

If we don’t have a big experienced player at CHF with good crumbing players underneath. Our mids wont have the confidence to attack and therefore we wont score.

The Eagles lost every one of their tall defenders and we’re still able to set a game plan that got them to the grand final.

We have relied on a game plan and tried to fit everyone into position, whereas maybe we need to find a game plan that suits the players we have at our disposal, that they can effectively execute against the majority of the league and a game plan that doesn’t expose the team’s weaknesses.

Westcoast where never going to win against the Hawks at the MCG unless they played man on man. The MCG is far wider then then their home ground. I said to my mates during the week if they guard space against the Hawks on that wider oval. They wont win.

In saying this I agree with what you are saying. Plus we need a better fwd line, Hooker must play fwd.

Really liked the faces I saw in the room, too. As a first year player, Laverde can be excused, but there he is. Like it.

My main point was that back in February, the Eagles weren’t even a hope of making finals with the tall defenders let alone the Grand Final. When they lost them both, most were saying they’d be bottom 4.
To go from that position to making a grand final is ■■■■■■ amazing.

There is no reason why we couldn’t adjust our gameplan to suit the available players.

I hope your right but, I think that team has been building over many years, not just one. People quickly forget the injury’s of the previous years. In saying this our team as been building over long period too. We are at the point where we probably have the best back 6 in the comp. A reasonable midfield when fit, but a week young fwd line. The saga has absolutely destroyed us the past 3 seasons so its really hard to gauge where we are at, if we are cleared by the start of next season, we may finally get the chance to see where we are at.

Would have loved to see Hirdy get a good 3 years post saga. I think he deserved it and should have backed in by the club instead of taking the ■■■■ weak way out. But it didn’t happen which makes future success feel a little hollow to me.
