Welcome to Essendon - there might be more last list spots…

His main concern with his kicking is that he struggles to settle on the run, he plays at a frenetic pace and he needs more coaching on how to fix that. His kicking style is nothing like Dyl Clarke he can kick 50m no problem and could even take kick outs no problems.

With his athletic profile and attitude he could become a very good AFL player if a club can be patient with him and help develop that composure. Jason Castagna was a very similar case in his draft year

Mate can you please give me your thoughts on Cedric Cox when you get a chance?

He still can’t kick.

This is true but he is best 22 in a premiership squad atleast, been good value for a rookie

@THE_DON1. Do you know if we can pick-up one of the players that didn’t get selected in this years draft? Id love to get someone like Darby Hipwell (BGS lad) . He is a small who played mostly as a midfielder for many years, however he may make a good transition into the back pocket. Thoughts?

Yeah, but I think it is different for a forward. You really don’t want a backman that just turns it over all the time. Our kicking as a team has been deplorable for years and coincidentally we have not won a final for years.

What’s the latest on Tippas brother?

Castagna was a defender in his juniors

When playing as a mid his kicking struggles but as a defender Lake isn’t too bad with his kicking.

Anyone who was in a previous draft is now eligible to be picked up.

Out of curiosity, given whoever we took was looked over by every single club multiple times, what defects in their game are acceptable to you? Because it sounds like you have some (e.g. elite kicking) which are deal-breakers.

@THE_DON1 is there any gossip about who we may be interested in?

Who would you like us to be looking at?

We’ll probably end up with Billy!

What they have is a lot of very good, but not great, players.

I don’t mind him, we liked him in his draft year but that ship seems to have sailed. Thi k he will get the most out of his footy in WA

Considering they are playing football, kicking is pretty important. Look at all the premiership teams ever and name a bad kick off the half back line?

Just take the risk on McCartin.

Do it Essendon.

Anyone encouraging McCartin to play footy right now (especially at AFL level, but at lower levels too) is damn near guilty of criminal negligence at this point imho.

I would stay well clear and I hope other clubs do the same.

It’s not really about us taking a risk. He is the one taking the risk and we need to look after him by telling him to sit it out.

I’d go for a small defender/HB flanker (considering we have no one to lock down on smalls) and an inside mid.

Why? Aside from all the concussion stuff another tall is the last thing we need

Imagine if we picked up Baldwin. Lol…

  • 4 KPPs in the draft and Wright through Trade
  • Two KPPs in the previous year’s draft

That would be a Essington special.
