His main concern with his kicking is that he struggles to settle on the run, he plays at a frenetic pace and he needs more coaching on how to fix that. His kicking style is nothing like Dyl Clarke he can kick 50m no problem and could even take kick outs no problems.
With his athletic profile and attitude he could become a very good AFL player if a club can be patient with him and help develop that composure. Jason Castagna was a very similar case in his draft year
@THE_DON1. Do you know if we can pick-up one of the players that didn’t get selected in this years draft? Id love to get someone like Darby Hipwell (BGS lad) . He is a small who played mostly as a midfielder for many years, however he may make a good transition into the back pocket. Thoughts?
Yeah, but I think it is different for a forward. You really don’t want a backman that just turns it over all the time. Our kicking as a team has been deplorable for years and coincidentally we have not won a final for years.
Out of curiosity, given whoever we took was looked over by every single club multiple times, what defects in their game are acceptable to you? Because it sounds like you have some (e.g. elite kicking) which are deal-breakers.
Anyone encouraging McCartin to play footy right now (especially at AFL level, but at lower levels too) is damn near guilty of criminal negligence at this point imho.
