i took it as Ishy shielded her and tied off the weave
Going of the top of my head here but shielded you can feel the source but not touch it, stilled it’s gone entirely

I binged Witcher s2 after a long week of bad work and bad news. As escapism into fantastical realms go it was delightful world building, funny, sexy, self aware (the bard having a crack at a friendly critic for his songs being disjointed and difficult to follow is tip top), silly and at times powerful. I’m a very slow few hours into the game, haven’t read the books. Feels faithful to the atmosphere of the game and looks like the world.
WOT isn’t ticking many of those boxes, (maybe it’s ticking visual boxes I don’t know), but I hope it gets another season to develop as I can feel the passion for the larger story from posters here. Covid no excuse, it’s in the writing and the running. It’s just tedious and fake to this WOT naif. My opinion and I think the comparison is apt.
Agreed, the impact of Fain having the dagger and its effect on Mat would have been quite telling if he was there.
Disagreed. I think it would have worked much better if it was Rand as it would show the potential of his channeling strength and why he is so important as the Dragon Reborn.
Yeah, agreed. After that nice cold opening, I was expecting it to have a tie-in near the end. They are probably just trying to give some background history with these type of cold openings.
Season 2 and 3 are greenlit
Bezo$
or the show far surpassing their metrics
I’m sure. Big Bang Theory, Friends and Trump did the same, doesn’t equate to quality. Too big to lose, especially when you can create your own universal hype, but it might be interesting to see if it goes a similar way to their New World online game - huge initial subscription followed by massive monthly drop offs. Hope it gets better, the d and d kid in me is barracking.
that was a bit ■■■■■, should get a new show runner, mr survivor is gonna need an all time turnaround for this to get any sort of acclaim post s2.
at best they could have a breaking bad moment, borderline ■■■■ season 1 and an all time turn around
Yeah, Season 2 is going to be make or break for me, I’m pretty close to tapping out. Despite all the changes done on the show, the drama and acting is not enough to make me enthralled.
That’s something that GoT had going for it, they had some heavy weight actors doing a great job and I think that hooked a lot of viewers in. In WoT, only Rosamund Pike and Daniel Henney are good, rest are pretty average.
For mine is they connected none of the threads they changed for apparently no reason. Not going to caemlyn is proving a mistake.
switching rand destroying the trolloc army for some inexperienced and weak women channelers is jarring because the dragon is meant to be a destructive force. They’re not.
the wasted episode of the warder grieving was dumb. If you had to can a story line do that one over the rest.
why are the seanchan being introduced now?
I just don’t think the writers/show runners have the chops to un ■■■■ their bizarre choices.
Spoilers for Book 2:
The Seanchan were quite important in Book 2 with Egwene being made damane and Nynaeve and Elayne trying to rescue her, along with them being defeated by Rand et al at the Battle of Toman Head.
Most of the problems I have with season 1 are obviously compromises to set up season 2 & 3. They’ve invested a lot of screen time into this exposition foundation. The warder episode was good, but it was purely focused on world building.
Did the episodes work as individuals? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I can definitely see what they were attempting, but the execution wasn’t perfect from pure storytelling.
My judgement of season 1 is a hit and miss execution of a sensible adaption. The skeleton of the season was fine. It just felt a bit rushed and unpolished at times. Other moments were fantastic.
I went into the finale with the attitude that the book version of the eye of the world was a little bit ■■■■. It needed a substantial rewrite in order to make mush sense. It didn’t work as en ensemble piece. It couldn’t be an hour of Rand accidentally doing things that he didn’t understand.
The problem with the finale was the Mat actor’s departure left gaps, the execution of the 5 woman circle didn’t quite work and the trollocs felt less visceral due to the lack of practical suits.
On the plus side, I think the women holding the line was the right storytelling choice. A scene with the women channeling instead of Rand doing everything to save the day makes complete sense in an ensemble story. The evil personality was well done, but I think they could have leaned into it a bit more.
The way these clowns are writing it, Min with a packet of crisps and a candy cane will defeat the Seanchan by herself.
This was a carefully designed and implemented scene. It took time to film. It only made the trailer.
There was a lot of gold that was cut from this show to make it punchy.
Wow…Episode 8 really hit the mark for the incompetence of the writer.
The only thing accurate in the entire episode was the character and place names.
The rest was total dross
I can’t even be bothered picking it apart…it’s just not worth the effort
did your daughter enjoy it?
I’m gathering you don’t really like anything.
Two of the biggest shows ever and you think they met “metrics”.
I think it was ‘exceeded metrics’ but whatever. I don’t like Friends or Big Bang Theory so I don’t like anything? I also don’t like Taylor Swift or Beyonce. I guess you’re right. If mass appeal and corporate budgets are the markers of quality and excellence then I have been so wrong in my choices.
Guess I’ll get a copy of the Hun and don my polo before settling in for a big dead bird and a taping of last night’s Carols.
Overboard I know but those kinds of cultural products make my skin crawl, they’re soulless skims off of much better shows that got canned because they weren’t pushed hard enough or weren’t broad enough. Mainstream is tepid water full of cheap opiates.
Pretty underwhelming finale for mine
Trollocs looked crap (but yeah covid)
I don’t know how I feel about the actor for Ishamael (and why the ■■■■ was he wearing a blazer)
Egwene healing Nynaeve was ? Should have been the other way round tbh
Loial seriously underutilized. Like seriously.
Not a fan of the visual design of the Fades
The whole Rand/EotW thing just felt confused; I actually rate the actor for Rand and think he has a really good range, I just think he’s suffering badly from the writing atm
However, the visual design of the Seanchan looks sick, the Rand/Ish confrontation was good, lol at Nynaeve fessing up to tracking Moraine not Lan, and the flashback to Lews Therin was good purely for the shot of life in the Age of Legends.
Willing to chalk up a lot of deficiencies down to covid and Barney Harris leaving but they would wanna lift for S2 and beyond.
Actually now that I think about it why the hell did the Seanchan gratuitously channel a tsunami to waste a little girl on a beach lol
