Nothing like form from 4 or 5 odd years ago to prove a move is justified

no. I expected to win. Every week. Pragmatic. Looking forward to this game but we are missing a third of our best side and have 3 first gamers. We won't win. Doesn't mean we can't get something from the game.Far out you are depressive. You probably thought we would lose each week in the '00 season and then when we lost in the final game of the normal season you probably said "I told you so."Won't win but don't mind the side.
If you don't have anything positive or remotely stimulating to post then don't post at all.
Will win. Decent side
Wow, I thought those boys would get a run at some stage this year, but all at once? That is an unexpected bench.
I'm slightly worried but mostly excited! Will be great to see what they offer.
Good to see that Bomber has the confidence in the new boys to debut them all at once.
They must feel great knowing that.
They better hope they score anytime they get the ******* thing inside fwd 50, or at worst get it out of bounds, cos that ball is gonna sling shot back down the entire length of the ground very ******* easily.
Get Hardingham out of the forward line FFS.
That forward line in it's entirety has ZERO defensive pressure.

Hardingham has played forward at time since then. The kid is a horrible decision maker and when he kicks it is a 70% chance he misses the target.
That game where he played the Kangas was close to 5 years ago. Citing games from 5 years ago is a bad sign.
Also has tendency to fly early and let the ball go over his head when a simple mark would have sufficed. Still, its a new season and everyone starts with a clean slate.

Heh, yeah loves doing that.
Having said that the forward line listed isn't how the team will line up anyway, and as Peos said above Hardingham has the tools so if he has the mindset we can still apply enough forward pressure with him in it.
Dempsey, Bellchambers, Melksham, Winderlich, Kommer missing.
Forward line almost completely refurbished.
Bench is … um … Experimental. Perhaps inspired by Fletcher’s debut all those millennia ago.
I’d say the lads have a big big job ahead of them to get up in this one.
Heppell marks and loops a handball to Hooker , who is looking for Hurley and finds him
Hurley dishes off a quick handpass to Hibberd who bounces and stab kicks to Hocking
Hocking grunts and brushes aside Harvey ,and long kicks to Howlett who spins around and
finds Hardingham on the long lead.
Harvey still squealing, looks up to the goal square expecting to see Hams , but who wasn't selected sees Hardingham slot his fifth of the quarter.
Can’t wait for one of our kids on debut to tear it up.

Dont know why the pessimism. I can definitely see us winning. Zerrett and gleeson will provide spark, I cannot wait to see gleeson zipping off the HB line and zerrett would play mid/half forward I think and provide good pressure
heppell wont play back. We have our first choice midfield available - watson, goddard, heppell, stanton and hocking. Add myers, zaharakis, howlett, zerrett for depth and thats very handy
like howlett forward. He’s a tackling machine and knows how to kick a goal, as does chappy. Dont underestimate how good chappy actually is, could easily kick 3-4. Ambrose is a wildcard that north won’t know much about, carlisle can turn it on and we know JOE can pluck them from anywhere
defence is solid. They only have two genuine talls in petrie and black, hooker, hurley and Fletch are good enough to cover them. Bags goes to thomas
Norf are seriously overrated. Us by about 4-5 goals
My tip is for Zerrett to be the sub though.
Also Melksham would be in our first choice midfield.
But I agree WOB, I think we will win simply on our midfield alone.
Yeah, one of the merrets definitely. Zac has just looked really good thus far…perhaps they go with Jackson as sub? Time will tell…
Don’t think that Zac has the tank just yet to run out a game of AFL footy at the standard required, but next year will be a different story.
i always manage to forget that Camporeale ever played for us, i create this little happy place in my mind where he is just another carlton flog, but once every couple of years someone here spoils my fantasy. thanks rolo, another 3 years of therapy wasted.
Honestly cannot remember a single piece of play he was ever involved in....
Murphy also brings up similar traumatic feelings, especially in combination with the infamous '1999 siren' photo....
murphy i can kind of cop as a journeyman and for the goal he kicked against WC in the hird/mcclaren game. also, milking the free from phil read just before half time in the 2004 elimination for being late and high sent the melbourne fans around me in the MCC totally mental and led to a healthy lead going into half time, gold (he was generally pretty good in his first year actually). ah the 2004 elimination final, fond memories, ■■■■■■ good game.
Big Dave standing up when it counted. Deserved more he did.
in many ways i remember that game more fondly than the 2000 GF from the point of view of a pure football going experience. The 2000 GF felt like a fait accompli going in, i really didn't think Melbourne were any chance of touching us and the only thing about it that really stands out in my mind is wallis punching an 18 year old kid in the throat on the members wing. I didn't mind when he ironed out mil hana (itself a pretty cheap shot) but i thought the green hit was pretty ugly and unnecessary. the result wasn't in any doubt from pretty early on.
don't get the people who get all put out of Wallis hittng Green. Everyone knows what Wallis' role in that side was. An 18 yr old tried to get up in Wallis' face so Wallis punched him (at the top of the chest towards the shoulder, not the throat) and Green crumbled. in that era, Wallis could just of easily smashed half his face or conccussed the kid but instead a punch to the chest and the ressult is a sign of why an 18 year old brad green should have tried to kick some goals instead of getting in the face of Dean Wallis to prove he was hard. he wasn't.
He punched him in the throat if you ask me
I'm surprised Green wasn't killed if the shockwaves from the impact to the throat were enough to break his collar bone.
Geez how is Elliot Kavanagh travelling?
Heading into his 3rd or 4th season and not forcing his way into an understrength side. We nursed him along in his first season due to some pre existing hamstring issues. What would we say his rate of improvement has been during his time at the club? Slow? Steady?
Is this bloke on track to be a very good AFL midfielder?
Look, I know the majority of our absentees aren't midfielders but he isn't even really in the mix it seems and I am worried.
Bullshit he does. Hardy is supreme in the air and would be top 1% in the afl for a guy his size to get a hand to a ball he has no right to get a hand to. Only gibson would beat him. He is a gun in the air.Heh, yeah loves doing that.

Disagree with the last statement. When you have been in the system for 4+ years and have shown now improvement with your kicking skills, it says plenty.
He starts from where he finished last year and should be measured against that. To me he doesn't work hard enough on his skills...in the modern game you MUST be able to hit targets by foot.
He gets the pill 60 out, how many trust him to hit the target? I feel that area of the team's game is the real key issue with the forward line structure.

You know by picking him you will get effort and guts and he tackles hard.
Knock his kicking but he is elite in the air.
Absolutely elite for his size.
I think you need to reevaluate what elite is. Hardingham isn't elite in the air, he can look elite in the air at time but he certainly does go early at time. He will punch when he can mark...however it doesn't matter how many marks you take when you can't use the ball well.
"Hey look, I took an elite mark...here you go opposition, have the ball back"
