Langford could have been if he spent more than a quarter there.

We were good tonight. Look at the lineups on paper they had stars on every line and a lot stronger side. Good experience for us against a top 8 side. Pass mark for me

Anyway, 2-1, weā€™d all have taken it so Iā€™m getting in early and telling the over the top negative nellies to get farked.

Finished 15th last year.

Beat 12th & 13th in the first two rounds this year and suddenly we should be winning every game we play.

3 goal loss. Very poor start the main factor but a bit of fight to get back level. They (Saints) right now are very well drilled across the board and consistent. Do I think theyā€™ll still be playing this way in 3 months? Nope. But right now they deserve to be right up there.

We all want to win every game but guess what? ITā€™S NOT ALL ABOUT THIS YEAR.

The coach has said it, the club has said it ā€¦ I think deep down most know it but after 20 years of mediocrity they are still struggling to grasp it.

Zerk gets slated if he makes one mistake yet the other gimps in the backline canā€™t hit the side of a barn door with their kicks.
Lost at selection but that opening 15-20 minutes was close to the worst football we have played in this decade.

you have no frame of reference for what winning a grand final feels like, so in the meantime every win you see must be absolutely incredible

Geez I hate making krap players like Higgins look good.
Itā€™s a real Essington thing. And Wilkie.
In the end we lost at selection, and a mistake riddled first and last 15 minutes.
The selection I can forgive while Brad is working out what he has on his hands.

For three and a bit quarters we were as good or better. We managed to erase the lead before losing steam. Have to be happy with that work effort.

You have to be equally unhappy with our start which was diabolical. No words for conceding the first 28 points.

Other elements of note:

  • most Blitzers were critical of playing Stringer too soon and not dropping Heppell. We were dead right on both calls. Heppell is poison to ball movement. Stringer did very little.
  • Draper fought back, but boy he was torched by Marshall early. Shaded around the ground throughout.
  • our midfield after the bad start got on top in the middle.
  • we couldnā€™t match Wood. What we want Cox to become.
  • some senior players had shockers. Redman had a mare. Ridley played well mostly but some terrible turnovers. The lack of discipline. Merrett did little. Langford dropped mark.
  • Davey and Menzie struggled to impact under the pressure in the biggest game and biggest heat theyā€™d have encountered in their short careers.
  • for all the criticism of Langford playing back he had almost no impact forward when shifted beyond the one kick where his man went up to no affect.
  • Jones linked several times importantly before being subbed. Unlucky but Weideman was the second ruck so got a pass.
  • oh, and umps didnā€™t help

Weideman and Jones very, very lucky. Iā€™d be tempted to bring Baldwin in at the expense of one of those two.
