Yes, that’s all true. But let’s wait for the real games before we hold them accountable. Let’s keep it balanced and pragmatic. If after 6-7 rounds ‘effort’ and basic game style and structure are as poor as last Friday, we should certainly be asking the challenging questions of the clubs senior leadership.
I think it was important for us to make a good first impression and give fans an idea on what the season could like.
The lack of effort/discipline and structure is what I’m most disappointed about. All the same issues that plagued us against GWS and Pies

Why wait.
It’s not like we’ve just won a final or anything and have the luxury of past performance to ease ourselves into the season.

Yes, ideally. However, if we’re 5-1 abd playing well after 6 rounds, what happened at RSEA Park is totally and utterly irrelevant and forgotten. It’s their first trial game. They played poorly but keep perspective. Other than us wanting to win at all costs and play every game like it’s a grand final, clubs don’t see the first hit out that way. Otherwise we would be calling Collingwood’s season over aft losing to a bottom two side by 7 goals.
If no better next Friday, effort wise, we would be more concerned. The structural stuff won’t be fixed in 7 days, accept that reality now so you don’t lose your mind next week.

I would have been fine with a tight 10-15 point loss. even tho we lost you could see what the team is trying to do and they things they are working on.

I’ve already conceded that next week will be a ■■■■ show.
What I’m looking for is an appetite and hunger to be physical and not make it easy for the Cats that’s not too much to ask for is it.

Collingwood won the grand final last year.
They had nothing to prove in that game and you could say have the liberty of easing into the season.
We just came off back to back beltings.
We needed to show some intent.

I look at Brisbane.
They lost the GF by 5 points what do they do? belt Gold Coast. That’s a team that was not happy with how the GF ended.
After two beltings you our think the team would come with the same kind of attitude in their first competitive hit out of the year.

Make a statement and get yourself going.
Caddy, Hobbs, Caldwell etc. Play well and you’re a big chance. Bryan, Draper, Roberts, Lual et al.
Yep, agree. Work ethic and not get physically beaten up. And an improvement on some of the structural stuff a must. The missing chemistry, cohesion and connection will take time to get there.

We had nothing to prove either, no 4 points on the line. Let’s wait until round 1 onwards to see what we can ‘prove’ to the fans and members.
Again, be realistic about expectations. No footy scribes really have us in the eight. Several argue we should be aiming for the eight. HS ranks our midfield 13th, our backline 14th. So, be realistic. Our backline hasn’t played a game of footy for premiership points together. It ain’t just going to gel.
Effort, commitment, progress during the year a must. The rest is unknown, as is where we finish.

Would also show the game against Saints was just a matter of dusting off the cob webs,players easing back into it etc if we are competive against Geelong
If not and we see a repeat of the Saints game then fans will have every right to start questioning what’s going on

Yep. Unless we right the wrongs (effort / commitment) by round one of course!
I did hope we’d look more synchronised and organised. We didn’t, so that’s the task ahead to work on. If it doesn’t improve over the year the tough questions will rightly be asked. Just not in February!
