Who are our top 5 players on the list

Yes but sill one of our most skilled players

If we’re basing this on everyone fit, I’d have Zach Reid in there:

  1. Merret
  2. Martin
  3. Langford
  4. Durham
  5. Reid

I’d also be tempted to include Parish, the fit version.

And his worst is diabolic.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I’ve never really understood the love for Martin. In my view, he’s a B-grader at best.

A fit Parish (2021,2022) is easily our second best player.

I don’t blame them but people forget how good he was at his peak without the constant injuries. All Australian and 26 Brownlow votes in 2021.

Also

  1. Dean Wallis
  2. Ed Considine
  3. John Barnes
  4. Anthony Antrobus
  5. Peter Somerville

(at least when Sheeds was asked to list his top players in about in a 1990 edition of the Footy record, he something like this).

Merrett, Durham, Martin, Langford, Reid/Caddy/Caldwell.

Very grim thread OP.

I agree on the B-grader.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t preclude him from being our second best player.

His best is pretty scintillating.

I haven’t forgotten, but I’m not convinced he’ll ever be that player again. If he gets back there he’s in the top 3, minimum.

Merrett
Martin
Durham
Langford
Caldwell
(Ridley when fit)

2 years ago for sure. But I reckon Langers is pretty cooked.

Zero love for McGrath so far.

Hes just not very well liked, same with McGrath.

Personally would love to see a how good a fit Parish, Langford or Ridley would look in 2026. Fingers crossed the new strength team can work some magic.

Broadly speaking I rate Duursma very high, and he’s played better footy since being at the club than Ridley has. Ridley’s best footy was 5 years ago.

Worth noting I was a big Snelling guy, so I guess I rate the whole ā€˜intangible/team first’ play that certain players like Duursma bring.

Move him full time to the middle, then maybe. But hard to as a back pocket.

I rated Snelling pretty highly too.

What would other clubs give us in a trade for Ridley, even pricing in his injuries, cf. Duursma was moved on from his previous club Port? Not even close IMO.
